Final Drive vent plug removal R90/6

Howdy, I have a 1976 R90/6 and replacing the final drive, the one I am getting has a vent plug with a phillips screw on the top of the vent, the one on my bike has a smooth top vent. What is the screw for ? And can I remove the vent from my current drive and replace the one with the screw ? If so how does that vent come out and install.
Thanks for your time
Dave

From the ABC archives, Tom Cutter says to heat the base of vent in the final drive house...my guess is hair dryer hot, maybe heat gun hot. Use a pair of vise grips to pull the old vent out. Before pulling the old one, get a sense of how much of the vent is exposed. When you put the other one back in, should go back about the same. Again, make sure there are no burrs on the hole, put some grease inside the bore of the housing and lightly tap the vent into place.

Tom had some snide remark about the screw...saying it was ballast to keep the bike CG in proper location! Actually the one with the screw is the older style. Should work just the same provide the older one fits into the bore in the house securely.
