I was having trouble locating the Diagnostic port on my 2016 R1200. I wanted to connect my GS-911, and the port was not in the same place as on my 2005 R1200 or my 2009 GS F800 (under the seat).

The online Haynes manual has a great color picture of the port itself, but they don't tell you where it is located. On the Right side of the bike as you're sitting on it, there is a small triangular panel that pops off to reveal the shock adjustments. It ain't that one.

Just to the front of that panel there is a larger triangular flat-black fairing panel that is attached by two T25 Torx fasteners at each corner, and a plastic pin pushed into a grommet above the cylinder head. Remove that panel and you'll see the Diagnostic port. You can access the battery there too.

Top right of battery. Easily accessible with the removal of one plastic panel on the bike's right side.
