What’s the best way to clean this without messing anything up. I know the fuel level mechanism is fragile. I got a new pump ordered.

Oh jeez. That is some rust. That's worse than the original fuel sender in my R850R when it was starting to rust through the tank...I'm shocked that sender and fuel pump wiring are still working. They may be on borrowed time as it is.

I'd try soaking it in Evapo-Rust if you can afford a gallon or two of the stuff. If you don't want to spend that much, electrolysis for a couple days can also do the job.

If you have the money, though...just replace the whole sender. It's about $400 new. Those fuel pump wires are system-critical and if the ground or positive wires finally corrode through you could end up stranded somewhere.
