My apologies for this ignorant question, but is there a site where BMW owners rent out their bikes, or something similar? My buddy and I were talking about our winter down south plans and he mentioned this, but couldn't remember what it was called.

If you want to make sure you're riding a professionally maintained bike, I've used this option before. My AMA membership bought a fair discount.

If you mean LA, Las Vegas, or Miami, then Hertz Ride is a good option. I rented an R18 out of LA last January for a week and it was an excellent experience.
