Anyone subscribed to an insurance plan for their dog?

Just got a new puppy, covered for a month by some sorta deal with the AKC. The breeder recommended a different insurance plan, a plan that paid the vet directly.
I haven’t really looked into the real costs but I am familiar with the emergency veterinary hospitals not being shy on changing.
Curious what other dog owners may have done insurance wise?

We insured our last dog, he was a rescue with some health issues that needed regular attention. Insuring him worked out well, and we are glad we did it.

Our current dog is very healthy, and only 2-1/2. We haven't insured her yet, but may in the future.

I think the decision is similar to that of going with an extended warranty on a Beemer. Case by case basis. :)
