add Tach 01 Phoenix R1200C

Looking to add Tachometer, C has no tach signal wire available. The signal wire is sheilded to the coil, I was going to use a Scotchlok water resistent tap at the coil end of the wire at the connector. I need to know if the shield is incorporated into this wire or does it end under the cable insulation, where the 2 wire come out. I can't see where the shield is terminarted at the connection. The reason I ask this question, the signal wire is a little thicker than the power wire.

Pick up the signal from the black wire right at the coil. The shield ends just before that. The shield references ground at the Motronic end.

Scotch locks are garbage. They damage the wire and allow water ingress.
I have traced countless problems to them.

Use a Positap of the correct size instead.

I've used positap products in the installation of running lights, gps, and accessory plugs without a single problem. I highly recommend their use. They are inexpensive and very easy to use.

Too late, I did tap the wire at the coil. I agree with your thoughts on the Scotch ll. I purchased the Scotch lol and installed before your reply. I have never heard of the Positap. The Scotch lokThe ones I bought is gel filled, some sort of non hardening silicone, I would guess. The body is redesigned, they are certainly better than the originals.in the future I will use the Positaps.I prefer soldering. Thanks for your input!
