85 R80... Converting to two hose front brakes...

Hey folks,

I am making progress on my rebuild and conversion of an 85 R80 RT to an S style and thinking a bit about the appearances regarding the brake plumbing. I've never been wild about the standard cross-over pipe from one caliper to the other and am considering running a second hose from the distribution block to the other caliper directly. The hoses will be custom stainless either way and I currently have a 14mm master cylinder.

I am curious what downside there might be in this setup, other than needing some custom brackets, some added cost for more brake line and possibly the bleeding. Basically, will the concept work? I've seen a few builds out there with similar setups, but not much commentary on performance.

For reference, this old BAT auction bike has a similar setup...

I am at the end of doing the same build and decided to run a single line from the master cylinder to the caliper and utilize the cross over. I thought about using the same route as used on the RT fairing but wanted to eliminate as much plumbing as possible. Plus I could not decide on a bracket configuration that appealed to me. Pictured is the routing I decided. I purchased all the fittings and made my own brake line. Either way will work fine. I am down to pinstripe, paint wheels, and tires to cross the finish line.

You can use this off the dual disk R65 and others. It's a 3 way junction with the brake switch. One line in from the MC and two lines down to the calipers.

Mix and max your lines and connections with Goodridge braided lines and connectors.
