1984 R100RS Starter

I bought a non-running RS at an auction and have been working on it for a few weeks. When I tried starting it yesterday the starter would turn over once and stall. I was jumping it from a car battery.
Bench testing it, it spun but sounded pretty rough.
Anyone have any experience with the EuroMoto Electric $119 starter?

Stock Starter

The stock starters are pretty darned tough and reliable. They can also be taken carefully apart, cleaned or rebuilt.

My question would be, does the engine turn over by hand? I mean can you put the rear wheel up off the ground, select second or third gear and rotate the tire to rotate the engine for a complete rotation (spark plugs out, ignition off)? Or put an Allen wrench into the Rotor bolt while in neutral and turn the engine over (spark plugs out ignition off)?

How dead is the battery in the bike? A really dead battery in the bike can act as a dead load and despite a good jumper battery and good cables, forgive the term, "suck" up the jumper charge and still not jump start. If you can cobble in or fit in a good battery or charge the battery in the bike, things may change next time you try to start or jump start. Good luck, St.

I rotated it by the Allen bolt hole to adjust the valves, it turned easily without the spark plugs. I can turn it over by hand in 5th gear with the spark plugs in.
I jumped it off the battery in my car, bypassing the old battery in the bike.
