What is your dealer hourly rate

I was at my nearest BMW dealer, I notice on the wall he had rates listed.

Hourly $80, some simple things like tires 45 on bike, 35 off.

Just wondering dealers rates are.

Dealer here charges $82/ hr. and says takes about 1.5 hrs to change the tires.

Again, not a dealer, but a repair shop...$90.00/hour...pretty typical...pretty sad, too, seeing as how body work and paint is less per hour...and requires MUCH more skill...

Last time I checked, it was $80 and hour. Their prices for tire changes (on or off) were ridiculous so I bought the complete setup to properly change and balance my tires. I have the airhead and a couple of Vespa's so the equipment more than paid for itself at their rates. Fortunately, there's very little that I can't do in the way of maintenance and repairs on both the Beemer and the Vespa's so I haven't been to a dealer for any type of mechanical repairs in over 20 years. I always used a dealer for tires until the rates creeped into the ridiculous zone. I wonder how many others have bought their own tire changing equipment for this same reason?

I think the hourly rate is like the line on a shot glass, just an estimate when the variable is the number of hours a dealer takes to complete a task. They'll almost never commit to an exact number of hours--so, unless you are comparing one dealer with another quoting the same number of hours (rarely the case), then the hourly rate is mostly a marketing game.

Flat rate technician shops use hourly rate x (factory time per job x dealer multiplier). So, its pretty easy to adjust a price on a job. For routine jobs (oil change, etc.) then maybe you could compare one dealer to the next...but who takes an Airhead to a dealer for an oil change?

Just my two cents. :drink

I too, bought my own tire changing & balancing equipment. Also with no local BMW dealer, I do my own maintenance. The local "Other Brands" dealers also get around the $80 Hr. rates too. I used to use one for tire mounting and balancing and I would take them the tire & wheel. They got out of line on costs so I went rogue.

Body and paint work doesn't take more skill. They are different skills.

Yeah? Have you DONE both, at a higher level than as a hobbyist? I have, both, and I'm here to tellya, that body work and paint requires a lot more true skill... There is no way to teach you the touch...people can show you, you can go to school, but the touch is something only you can discover, when it comes to body and paint...

Don't want to get into a heated discussion here, but I do know about this...
