Touratech ADV Touring Windscreen - an FYI

Subject related to my 2023 R1250 GS. Let me preface by saying I am a Touratech fan with lower crash bars, pannier rack, lower pegs, rear brake reservoir guard, headlight guard, bar risers, etc. My GS has the standard height, not tall, windscreen. I thought I might like a taller windscreen and since the Touratech Large (20.5” tall x 16” wide) is about $100 less (at $239.99) than the BMW OEM Tall windscreen I went with Touratech.

I am 5’ 10.5” and I have my GS seat set on the high position. Unfortunately, when I set the Touratech windscreen to its highest position the top edge is above my eyeline and that is not good. From a height alone perspective, you probably need to be about 6’ 2-3” to use this windscreen at its highest position.

Another observation: when you are riding at higher speeds the wind force makes it impossible to move the screen up an down easily. I could barely move down, but could not move up at all. Probably has to do with a slight angle difference on the screen compared to OEM?? I do not have the same issue with the OEM windscreen.

I used it on a recent 1,000 mile trip and made mental note of observations. And when I got home I put the OEM windscreen back on the next day and road for several hours to compare. The Touratech windscreen creates more turbulence between the tank gas cap and my stomach. Not sure why? Also, when I point my hand and fingers forward like a fin and start moving my handfrom tank center out to either side, I start picking up airflow before getting to the bike controls on either side, wheras with OEM windscreen I get almost to the mirror stubs. So maybe 2-3” difference. I can feel the airflow on my upper arms and sides more with the Touratech windscreen.

It was worth a try, but I think I will keep the OEM windscreen on.
