Tried sw motech, no luck on tank rings for this bike. Givi seems the same.

What are people using for tank bags on their camhead RT's?

I'm all ears, but I wish sw motech made a ring for the tank as I could swap out the tank bag between the RS and the new to me RT

Thanks

I just took a SW Motech Ion 2 and tank ring off my 11 1200RT and bought a Pro system for my 22
Interested?

I'd may be interested but would like to see what it looks like on the 2011 rt if I could first. Any chance you've got pictures you could send me?

Thanks

2005 tru 2013 R1200RT all use the same BMW tank Bag

K1300 ring will fit

When I sold my 2010 K1300GT I kept the SW Motech tank ring and with some longer screws and plastic spacers from Home Depot it worked just fine on my 2012 RT. The gas filler caps on either bike was essentially the same. The tank bags underside attachment can be adjusted forward/back for the different tank but that wasn't even necessary, the bag sat just above the tank as it was supposed to. I used it like that for about 6 years until I sold the bike. And no, it doesn't look stupid or gerry rigged.

I found an old photo:

I really liked the BMW tank bag with my 2011 RT. The ease of taking it on and off cannot be beat. The only negative is that the plastic map window yellows after awhile, but still quite usable.

I live in Arizona...what’s that white stuff in the background? Please let me know if the tank bag is avail.

I have a 2010 and I have the BMW Tank Bag that attaches to the factory rails, this system works quite well. However, for daily use and when I have a drybag on back seat for extended travel, I created my own version of the BMW bag using the plastic base from a pretty roughed up BMW bag I purchased online. I removed the factory bag and mounted a smaller tank bag on this frame. So I have the ease and convenience of the BMW bag that attaches and removed easily but a smaller bag. I purchased a bag for metal tanks and I glued some metal plates on the bottom of the BMW bag frame and I just wrap these around the frame and they stick to the metal plates. I also did this with a slightly larger tank bag previously and bolted it into place but I preferred this smaller bag. (see photos of my smaller bag compared to BMW factory tank bag)

Aside from the great mounting system the BMW tank bag is a total POS if you live anywhere where the sun shines. The map case turns yellow and unusable in a couple of years. The rest of the bag fades to a weird grey. I've had two of these from new on different RT's and would never buy another one. This is a shame because BMW could have used some higher quality material and clear vinyl like they do on boat tops or convertible windows and it would have lasted longer. None of my other tank bags from other manufacturers ever had the same problems as the BMW bag, so there is no excuse. You can get some extra life out of your faded bag with one of these, now discontinued but other versions may exist. You just have to make an attachment system for the BMW bag.
