Stuck Fork Tube Nut Need Help

Blueman

Member
I have tried a battery powered air impact wrench with a nut extractor socket, penetrating fluid and a wimpy soldering iron for heat. Reluctant to use a torch due to rubber parts and dash nearby. Would an air powered impact wrench provide better loosening power?
From the blue coloring on the bolt it looks like someone used Loctite.
I'm at a lose!

Thanks for your help!

If you don't want to use the blue hammer (flame) use a heat gun as the locktite will only release when sufficient heat has been applied... YMMV

I just finished this job on my '96 R1100GS. Same setup. You did hold the tube so it does not spin, right? If blue loctite then 200 degrees F.

TheDamun is right. There is a flat below the tree that fits a 22 mm open end wrench. Hold the tube with the wrench and you should be able to remove the top nut. Might require a helper to hold the wrench.

if the wrong loctite was used, small oxy-acetylene torch with a 00 tip, and a bucket of water with a couple rags to wrap the area, is the best way to not damage anything
