Stubborn Seat Lever

I'm having trouble with the seat release lever on the 2014 Sertao. I have been able to remove the seat on previous trys but it feels like it's becoming more difficult. The owners manual suggests pushing down on the seat while pulling the release lever. There's not much movement happening . Does it work as a lever or a handle one would pull up on. I'm afraid that it's going to break off if pulled too hard!

Any suggestions?

Any maintenance tips would be appreciated.

I would try having one person on the lever (administering different amounts of pressure) while someone else tries to push down on the seat and tries to move it in any way possible for and aft and to both sides. Maybe this would put just enough pressure on the release mechanism to let it go. If you do get it off I would try to figure out what the problem is and if there is a remedy before putting it back on. Good Luck.

Thanks Wayne,

I sprayed some dry lube on the lever and attached spring & latch, those parts are moving better now. The seat fits in position pretty snug and needs to be lifted out. It does not pop up the way some other seats do. I might try putting some small springs over the alignment pins but I'll have to figure out a way to keep them from coming off and getting lost whenever the seat is removed. Or maybe I'll just adapt.

Cheers!

This seems like a common problem in bikes of that style - that whole mechanism is just out in the open waiting to get sprayed on by rain, dust, salt, etc. I eventually added cleaning/lubing it to my monthly maintenance checklist.

Don't quote me on it, but I feel like someone (Touratech?) made a steal cable system that either replaced the handle or was for emergency release...

Perhaps a dab (or dollop... we're good with hi-tech terms) of silicone RTV at the base of the springs...?
