Spokane Airhead Mechanics?

spokanetom

New member
I'm about to purchase a 70's airhead as a project bike. If I need engine work done, is there anyone here from Spokane, Washington that would have professional mechanics they would recommend in the area? I don't know that I need any work done, but I'd like to have some names on tap in case I do.

Thanks!

I haven't been able to track anything down in Spokane...most places are in the western side of the state. You might make contact with people in the Anonymous Book to see if they have any suggestions...or maybe you can help each other.

I'm updating my thread to ask for not just a mechanic, but a machine shop. I have put myself in a stupid position where I have an exhaust pipe stuck in the cylinder. I was never going to keep the header or mufflers (tons of rust) so I cut it off. But I can't get it to budge. Tried lubricant, heat, even a jury-rigged puller, all to no avail. I have the head off so I could take it to a machine shop, but I'd prefer to go to one that someone from the forum might recommend. Preferably in the Spokane, Washington area.

Contact Chris Hughes, 509-844-3829. He probably knows someone in the Spokane area or could give you credible advice.

I have had to it with two sets of heads from an R50/5's with the exhaust stuck in the heads. When I cut them off I left about 2 inches exposed, I split it into 1/4's. I then got busy and careful with a Dremel and a needle point diamond bit and followed the cuts down into the exhaust ports. You have to be careful and not break through the header pipe and into the port. It will eventually get weaken the pipe enough that it will bend easily enough to collapse and pull it out. Be patient and be careful!
