South Africa Calling

Hello to the entire BMW MOA community. I have recently been accepted as a member of the MOA and proudly wear my MOA cap these days. A bit strange being from South Africa... perhaps a quick explanation! I own and run a motorcycle touring operation down here (South Africa) and had the absolute pleasure of spending about 9 days with two of your countrymen: Vance and Mari Harrelson from Alabama.

The time was spent riding some superb roads in the Cape Provinces (Western and Eastern) through some lovely scenery as only those who have been will be able to testify to. The days spent with them were punctuated with many hours of 'getting to know' each other with loads of laughter and banter. Mari's 'feeding the fishes' on the Great White Shark cage dive was possibly the low-light... aaagghhh... In her defense though we all felt a bit... 'green' around the gills, the sea was very choppy.

Well Vance was kind enough to welcome me as a member and 'wallah' as they say in the classics... i look forward to a great time getting to know y'all...

Welcome to the MOA and the forum! Sounds like a very special place to ride in...looking forward to seeing more. You own/run your business...what kind of bike do you personally prefer to ride?

Hi Kurt,
Yes indeed South Africa is a magnificent spot to ride a bike. On tours the preferred choice is the iconic R1200GS and F700GS for clients, personally my most recent BMW ownership was the R1100S! A great sports touring bike with tons of characterIMG00609-20130812-1018.jpg

Welcome Aboard!

Welcome to the MOA.

Vance spoke very highly of his trip and your operation.

Thanks for being a member!

WOW. South Africa! Welcome!
Any chance you know Gary and Maryann Taylor? They were from near Pretoria, as I recall, rode an F650, and moved to the States for work about 8 years ago.
I met them through a mutual friend at a Super Bowl party, and we rode together a few times on his (then) new Buell Ulysses.
They were the most fun, and Gary ended up taking another job down south and I miss them!
I know, I know, South Africa is a big place... I had to ask.

Thanks for the warm welcome on the forum. Vance and Mari were a credit to the MOA on the ride, very special people!!

Thank you for taking good care of Vance and Mari, they are very special people. By the way, ever come across the South African contingent of His Blood warriors motorcycle ministry? From the pictures I've seen, several ride beemers, and I think they are headquartered in johanasburg.
