Should I get it?

Hi everyone,
I am brand new to this forum and I need some advice. I am not a member yet but if this goes through I will be..... I have been a member of another bike group (The Venturer's)for a couple of years. The thing is, I have never loved this present bike since the get-go. I have been riding a variety of bikes for over 40 years(just never a BMW). I always liked BMW. I looked at the R1200C before I bought my 2001 Royal Star Venture. The R1200 C didn't really fit the two -up riding for my wife and I. So I bought the Yamaha Venture. The Venture is one fantastic bike for touring and the open road. It's specialty is two-up and long distance. But like I said I have never loved this bike. Too heavy, too BIG, too high too everythingand a bear to handle at slow speeds...(other Ventures disagree but it is true!) My wife rides with me but only once in a while. We are both not small people I go about 6' and 245 and we will not go into information about my wife. I want to live to ride another day...... Yesterday I stopped at the BMW dealer and saw a used 2003 R1200CLC(only 1000 mi.). I liked the look size and almost everything about it. NOW, for the point of this post. I know this is a BMW forum and that is why I am here. I go to the people that ride them to find out the low down on a bike. Sales people will tell you just what YOU want to hear and leave out some of the more important things like recalls and Small concerns about their brand of bike. And of course their brand is by far the best on the market for this reason or that reason. Ok, What is the members opinion of this bike. I REALLY LIKE IT! I no longer want a big heavy touring bike or I would try out the LT. What are the concerns and any problems that you are aware of other than the usual inter-forum differences of opinion about old BMW vs. newer BMW. Is this a good bike and what is a fair used price from a dealer for it. I loved the ride and feel of the bike almost like a sport tourer? Please advise any info you have... Thanks bcircus

Most people who have them seem to like them. The only complaints in the magazines were limited fuel range and a little light on power.

Get ahold of Helliot

Hey, talk to Hall Elliot from Florida about the bike.
He is pretty fired up about his and has run it on a couple of trips.
He calls himself "Helliot" on the forum.

Plenty of Info.

Thanks for the response. I have been all over the web at many different BMW sites reading about the R1200CLC. Seems to be a pretty nice bike. Now that I know more about the bike I know I want it and it would do the job very well for me. Now, if I can just get this Venture sold before the CLC gets gone. No, don't even suggest it. The wife would not only put her foot down,.... she would use it on my butt. I know I could just go get it and sell the Venture when it happens but like I said that's not going to happen. (The wife knows I am the man of the house, and I really do appreciate her letting me think I am in charge.) I'll just have to hope the CLC isn't sold right away. I know there are others out there. (but this one is a brand new used 03! only1000 mi.) And, I believe it can be purchased at the right price from the guy. He is selling for personal reasons not the bikes fault. This would be my first BMW and I am really excited. It rode out really great. Like many of the threads said"If it fits your needs and you like it, buy it."
I posted my add for the Venture in two trader papers and the Veturer's web site in hopes of unloading it quick. So if you know anyone that wants a 2001 Yamaha Venture send them my way.
Thanks for all the info. bcircus

What I love about my R1200CLC is seeing the harley drivers actually wave at me, then chew thier arm off after they see what they have waved at.

Another idea is to bring the Yamaha down to the dealer you bought it at or another dealer and ask them to sell it on consignment. It's out of your garage, you are commited to selling it so maybe then you can convince the Mrs it's OK to pick up the BMW right away. It worked for me!
