Route Advice Please.............

Hi Gail,

Loved Tuscaloosa,,

Very friendly town and I learned a little about the passion there for the "Tide". It's everywhere, made me wish I was back in school......for a minute.
Bar B Que is sure huge here in the south, I've seen it offered everywhere, little towns, big towns, churches and even at a hardware store.....no kidding.

I stopped for lunch near Chunky Mississippi ......I didn't make that name up, google it. There I found some fantastic fried cat fish and "tots" as they are called down here.
Started lunch with a cup of homemade cabbage soup and a small glass of brew, note the Riders obligatory food photo below. P.S. didn't ride my bike post brew....
The weather has been fantastic, a little chilly in the a.m. around 30f. but warming into the 60's with sun.
Stopped along the muddy Mississippi at Vicksburg and met a retired barge captain, Mel spent 35 years on the river and was out "barge spotting" with his binoculars.....I blew it, I should have taken his photo.

Sure is fun to travel in the "off" season.

Cheers:drink

A lot of the times the little hole in the wall places are the best.
It's even common to see roadside stands or trailers.

If you head south from Vicksburg, Natchez has some neat old Antebellum homes.
If you head straight west, Jefferson in East Texas has a nice historic downtown.

We ate at an old hotel in Jefferson, I think it was the Jefferson Hotel ??

Natchez antebellum will host me and Rhonda's anniversary this year. I gave her the goal of riding there. I'm hoping she will be savvy enough on the bike by then to make the trip as a duo.

Glad you are having fun! Too bad you missed Dreamland BBQ in Tuscaloosa. It's one of THE very best!

South along the Mississippi from Natchez to New Orleans was a disappointment for me. Can't see the river for the levee, massive antebellum mansions interspersed with very poor villages, chemical refineries, and sugar cane fields, with poorly maintained, pot holed road surfaces. Not romantic or beautiful. At all.

Natchez Trace was beautiful but then again you totally miss Mississippi if you stay on it- as it's then just a lovely drive thru the woods.

Thanks for the updates! Look forward to the official RR.
