Hello There,
I am a new member to this club and wanted to know if anyone can recommend a good shop OR a good mechanic for servicing and repairs for my 1980 R100S in the Houston area? Any recommendations is greatly appreciated
Many thanks,

Welcome to the forum! Can you tell us what sort of work you need done? We might be able to help or better direct you to some resources.

We've had a few questions about support in Houston...that might be a place to start:

In that thread is a link to independent BMW shops that might be worth check with.

Yes so, my bike was left idle for some time (since I was traveling) and did not start when I returned. I replaced the battery and now it's cranking but not starting. I checked to the best of my knowledge but couldn't get it to start. So I was needing some assistance on that as well as an overall service of the bike (sparkplugs, forks, shocks etc.) and make some cosmetic changes as well.
I went to MPH Cycles but it appears they are fully booked at the moment but the gentleman did take down my phone and said would call me if there were any openings.
I also reviewed the above thread but did not see any shop referenced there (besides MPH Cycles)

In that thread I linked, there was another link to independent mechanics. That link is here which has a few other Houston shops:

Have you considered looking into the Anonymous Book? Not sure if you have the paper copy but there is an app that can be downloaded as well.

Yeah, sitting idle for a while makes you begin to wonder where to start. If it's cranking and won't start, I suspect you are going to need to clean the carbs. Hopefully the choke/enrichener system is working correctly. If you had some starting fluid, with the air intake tubes removed you could try some quick/short shots of the fluid and see if the engine will catch for a little bit.

So I reached out to the individuals referenced on the link, waiting on a response. Will check the anonymous book as well for some guidance.
Many thanks for your help :)
