Recommendation For GPS and mount

Picking up a 2010 RT . Old school ride 😁. I am looking at buying a GPS and mount for this bike .
Thinking Garmin Zumo XT or maybe someone here has a better suggestion.
Not sure about the mount , looking for help on that .
Mike

I mounted a Garmin 396 using a Ram ball w/8 mm bolt in place of one of the handlebar riser bolts on the top bridge. I feel that is the location with the least vibration or shock impact, I wouldn't want it out on the end of the bar. The 396 cradle sits on a short arm off the ball on the riser. It's been there 65,000 miles. If you are 5' 6" like me the GPS blocks view of the tach below 1,000 rpm but 1,000 to 9,000 is in view.

I would pick the Garmin Zumo XT....I have Zumo 595 and not thrilled with it, but not using GPS enough to justify upgrading...I used the RAM mount that came with the Garmin. Let me know if you want pictures.

I have an XT and lust after the XT2 as you can (re)route a trip easier on the 2 from what I have seen. But since my XT still works I sticking with it..YMMV

I would like to mount this where I can see it with bmw tank bag on ……not crazy about a handle mount
Suggestions ?

On my R1100RT, I have a shelf and have two Tourtech locking mounts for my reliable Garmin 660 and the Garmin 595. Both are at eye level. Unfortunately my K has the 595 mounted on the handle bar; not as easy to view.

I do no know if a shelf is available for your bike.

This is for a Garmin Zumo XT2, but could also could do the same with XT or any GPS that uses a 4 bolt standard AMPS mount. Tackform BMW bar mount and several Tackform arms to allow adjustment and positioning over clutch reservoir. This is using Tackform's anti-theft arms and a MotoPumps security mount to prevent casual theft of GPS. This is on my 2010 RT.

Depends on whether or not you have and use your radio. There is a 3 wire plug that has power and a 2 wire plug that is an audio input to the radio. I have enc earbuds wired into the rear speaker socket. This lets me get prompts from my nav4 using the BMW 4 button mount. Expensive new, but reasonable used.
Use a Zumo XT with blue tooth headset in my Schubert C4 on my f650gs. Good to about 60 or so, then the wind noise makes it hard to hear the prompts.

I do not have a radio . Where is 3 wire plug located ?

I should have included a pic of how my GPSs ate mounted to the shelf from the rear view.

I have a Zumo XT mounted on a shelf I bought used in the classified section from here or another site. The XT2 is probably better but the XT has been great for me. I sometimes run tracks on a GSA, and run routes on the RT. I can plan trips with the XT. I just did Alaska and back with it. Never missed a beat. The shelf has it mounted right below my line of sight on the windshield of the RT. The GSA has the BMW Nav mount, converted to the XT.

Here's my GPS mount on my 2013.
Custom mount made from aluminum powdercoated black, Ram ball and short extension arm. Umidigi Bison X10 rugged smartphone running TomTom Go app. Works great.
