Rear GS wheel brake insert?

I have a couple G/S rear wheels that are worn close to the max for any more brake usage. Has anyone tried or made a press fit or rivetted steel brake liner insert so the hubs can be rejuvinated?

I'm all ears as well. I've often wondered if there was a deposition process that could renew the lining.

I'm sure the hub was cast with the lining, not inserted later, which would make removal impossible in my opinion.

If there's a way to plate the current surface and build it up several thousandths, then machine it to spec - that seems like the way to go.
