Rattle in a new R1150RS

Hi:

I have a new R1150RS (2004) with approx. 3000 miles on the odometer and am hearing a new rattle coming from the engine/drive train area. I don't know where to look for the problem and would appreciate any help or information about this.

Just changed the oil. This had no effect.

Does not seem to affect the driveability of the machine.

:dunno :dunno

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

It MAY be the cam chain slapping around a bit. This is a common occurrence on R259 motors and is usually found on the left hand side. It's annoying, but causes no damage. The noise is often most prevalent on start up.

BMW has a new tensioner available, although they haven't publicized it. If this is the culprit, have your dealer replace it under warranty.

Hello; We need more information to trouble-shoot your rattle. How do you make it rattle? Is it only when your in gear? Where is it coming from?

I HAVE A 1150GS THAT MAKES THIS SOUND TO. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THEY FOUNDIT IN MY CLUTCH. IT HAD GONE BAD IN LESS THAN 10000 MILES. I STILL GET THAT RATTEL BUT NOT AS BAD. IT IS NOT THE CLUTCH THEY TELL ME. I AM SAVING UP FOR THE TOURATECH CERAMIC CLUTCH TO SEE IF IT SOLVES THE NOISE

Hard to troubleshoot over the ether, but if you have access to the Dec. 1999 BMWON there is an article about the cam chain tensioning noise that is a common complaint as mentioned in one of the other posts - it is a "they all do it don't worry about it" problem. Maybe from the article you can better determine whether that is indeed the noise you're hearing or not.
