RA Rally ?

Anybody going to the RA Rally in Vermont, (last week of July) from West Michigan?

Tour nut: Not sure yet, if they had posted a location when they were supposed to, I could have easily gotten the time off. At this point, I have been whining and sniveling to the boss about having to take the last week or so in July off... He's not very receptive at this point, but I will work on him. If I can go, do you have a route in mind? Vaya con Dios, Dutch

We could go thru Canada (but definitely you have to have passports, now and Canadian prices are high) or thru Northern Ohio , Penn., part of N.Y. along Lake Erie , which is a few more miles than Canada. What are you riding ?, something quiet , I hope. I am taking a tent , but am open to using motel sometimes. (storms, esp. ) and I need to be home August 1st.

Tournut; The northern route won't work for me as I don't have a passport, and I won't get one of these new "enhanced" drivers licences. However, running along the top of Ohio ere would be good. I will be riding an '96 R1100 RT that I just picked up. I figure this bike will be a bit less troublesome then my R90 has been of late. Quiet doesn't even come close to describing this bike. Compared to my R90, it's like peaceful "mood music" compared to a KISS concert!! Camping works well for me as well, although I am not adverse to a room with a shower on occasion. Will let you know in a week or so if my whining works with the boss. Vaya con Dios, Dutch

Sounds good, I am taking a R1200RT, also quiet, Good luck with your boss, keep in touch, I will look in on this thread .

Hey all: Come on folks, there HAS to be more then just the two of us going to the "other" rally from here... You know that old saying; "The more the merrier" (of course there is the inverse as well"Misery loves company" Lots of great riding between Michigan and New Hampshire you know... Vaya con Dios, Dutch

I expect to be going but will be stopping in the Finger Lakes region for a couple of days to visit family on the way. We expect to stay in motels, but haven't made our reservations yet.

Tournut: The boss has had his final say, and like all good bureaucrat, (Is there such a thing?) He fell back onto "the book" for the answer: You must have vacation requests in be the end of March. PERIOD!!! Sorry, can't go this year. Hopefully the RA won't drag their collective feet next year on setting a date. Have a good trip, ride some great roads, and take lots of pictures. I've noticed that about bosses in Michigan since I moved here 15 years ago. It is OK if THEY have a life to enjoy but they don't want anybody that works under them to enjoy and / or to have a life. Sorry your situation is that way.
I am now on edge about this trip to Vermont , because 2 days ago , a car pulled right out in front of me from a car dealership and I T-boned him in the left lane on my Honda Shadow 750. I was on the brakes enough that when I hit , I did not completely go over the handlebar, and actually kept the bike up. It cracked the front fender, I rapped a finger hard against the mirror stem, and bruised my legs slightly on the handlebar but which held me from going over completely on his hood.
To make matters worse, Progressive Insurance tells me that I have to pay the $500 deductible for the bike damage, even though the police report has him at fault ! Part of the stupid assinine Michigan No-Fault insurance laws. For cars and anything else , not motorcycles, His insurance would pay for my deductible since he was at fault , but they screwed it up for in the case of motorcycles ! Motorcycle favoring lawyer says I would have to go to court to get the deductible money and that would work because police report has him - at fault, of course. He is still responsible for the accident. What a hassle now. and I was just minding my own business, going to work. This is the first MC to vehicle crash in 39 years for me.

Tournut: Can't really complain too much about my boss, he's really not a bad guy. It's just that if I get cut a bit of slack, the rest of our animals will want some, and they don't deserve it like I do!! (Said with tongue firmly pressed into my cheek!!)Glad your O.K., the bike sounds like it wasn't hurt too much, but your right about this states insurance laws. If you had hit something other then another vehicle, your insurance would have covered everything. Because you hit a car full of idiots, your screwed!! You just have to know some lawyer is laughing all the way to the bank!! Let's all be careful out there boys and girls... Vaya con Dios, Dutch
