R12RS - Install Clearwater Canbus Canopener

BILL WALLACE

New member
Just received the Canopener and have found instructions and online manual wanting.
It is now Easter Weekend and would like to install this unit before Monday.
I found the TPM and plugged in the canopener but where does the original plug removed go. There is another plug on the opener but it does not fit the original plug removed.

Basically, where do the canopener plugs connect, any photos would be helpful. Thanks:banghead

On the R1200RTW the canopener is installed in-line with the Tire Pressure Monitor. The TPM, on the RT, is located behind the passenger seat beneath the rear cowl. One unplugs the connector from the TPM. A mating plug is on the CanOpener to plug into the TPM and the other CanOpener plug plugs into the removed TPM plug. There are various wires and cables coming from the CanOpener that can be used to control front aux lights, the horn (use a relay if a more robust [i.e., stebel] horn is used}, and brake lights; I used both the Billie and Billie Jr on my RT.

Photos can be found on the Clearwater website -

The downloadable manual found on the linked page above contains photos showing the installation location for the RS and other models.

1+ on that. I installed the same setup on my 2018 RT and the electrical part was the easiest part of the install.

Ditto, electrical was easiest but the hardest (for me) was the routing/mounting.

Running the cables down the cable trough, and mounting the control unit was a challenge in patience.
Same for dismantling side fairings, and mount the under mirror mounting points.

Happy to explain, provide tips or provide photo's but I recognize the RT is different that the RS.
