R1150RT 2004 ABS fault..

Hi everyone,

I recently changed the brake fluid in both the wheel circuits and the two control circuits on my 2004 R1150RT. The control unit was replaced just two years ago.

Now, my front brake lever goes almost all the way to the handlebar with very little resistance. The ABS light is flashing at about 1 Hz, and the general fault light is on constantly.

Where should I start troubleshooting?

Is it necessary to repeat the entire brake bleeding procedure?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like air in the front control circuit. Do you get the little clicking of the valve at the very bottom of the stroke? If so, then I'd think wheel circuit but if not I'd start with the control.
 
Like Anton said there is air in the system and these whizzy brakes are very sensitive to that. There is a special funnel tool for this system to keep air out

I may have found the cause of the problem. One of the bleeder valves on the control unit was not properly tightened.

I’ll fix it and see if that solves the issue.

If you had a loose bleeder screw there is almost certainly air in the system, and a complete redo of the bleed process would be appropriate. Bleeding is a far cheaper and easier task than dealing with issues that could arise within the control unit from being engaged with air present, IMHO.
