R1150R Vibration

118503

New member
I've owned an '81 R100, an '88 K75 and now a new '04 R1150R. This is the first bike with excessive vibration. It comes on at 3800 rpm and gets a little worse as rpms get higher. Is this normal for this bike? Has anyone else had this problem and found a cure? If this is not normal, what can I expect a dealer to do about it?
Thanks much. Phil

i've got an 02 r1150ra. the vibration has lessened over time as the engine wears. i started at 4k miles and i'm at 15k and it's smoother for sure. secondly, my dealer/tech takes his time doing the valves and synching the throttle bodies, which makes all the difference. make sure that when the throttle bodies are synched it's done both at idle, and also 4,000 rpm.

My '03 RT is my 1st ever BMW. I was somewhat surprised at the amount of vibration that it produces, especially at idle and up to about 4K rpm or so. From that point on, it does settle down and feels pretty good.

I'm approaching the 18K mile mark soon, and I really haven't noticed any great reduction in vibration at the lower rpm's. I keep hearing how BMW's get smoother, stronger, and generally run better, as they acquire more miles.

I'm still waiting........... :dunno

what username said. i had an '01 r1100rl that i bought with 800 miles on it. the vibration was not bad at all and it did smooth out even more with the miles. put 15k on an 04 r1150rck with the same results. make sure valves are adjusted and tb synched. am at 4k on another 04 rockster (wanted the limited edition and got it in december) with no vibration problems.
have you had your initial 600 mile service yet? dealer should sync things up then. if they do a cruddy job and/or if you are a DIY guy i am told you can easily adjust valves yourself and the gizmo for syncing the tb's is around $90 from any of the big beemer dealers.

1150r vibs

my 00 1100s with 44k. vibrates at speeds above 65mph always did. its a characteristic of twins, with little balancing. my 650 vstrom is smooth as glass

I went from a K-bike to a R1150r in 02 and noticed the difference in vibration levels, mostly in the pegs...It seems to have lessened as the bike broke in & smothed out at about 20-25k mi. also the peg design is way different ,less rubber,if it realy bothers you perchance fitting a set of RT style pegs would help????Me,I've goten used to it accept it as a characteristic of the bike,,,plus this bike is just soooo much fun ta ride...Ohhh happy puppy,,,chase the stick ,,, :bliss

God, you guys need to ride an old vertical twin anything. Or maybe an old cast iron Sportster. You'd never again complain about the jvibes on a BEEMER!

Just pickin-at-ya! :wave
