Ok, im looking for tires for my low mile R1150R. I know this has been brought up in the past, but with so so many choices ranging from $400 perellis to $150 shinkos im a little overwelmed. Michelin's website recomends 2ct's. Any current suggestions? I ride mostly locally on Long Island, so not muct off road available to me. Thanks

Hank

I got a set of Pirelli Angel GT on fleabay for my 1100 for less than 300 shipped. I don't have many miles on them yet but so far, so good. they are now made in china though. The other major brands were similarily priced

I use the Michelin Pilot Road 3s and 4s on my R1100R, ZRX, R1200R.
Replacing the R1200R with new Pilots this week.
They were a great find for me.
Perfect for riding around Westchester and the surrounding states.
The 1100 has over 6k miles on a set. It is the red bike in the pic.

What tire pressure are you running in thi=ose Michelins? I also have an R1100R and there are two different recommendations for tire pressures. One from Chris Harris and one from the book that came with the bike. Chris Harris says the book is wrong.

The "book" is sometimes a very few pounds fewer than I found optimal. In the summer I liked 36F and 40R on my R1150R. In cold weather fall/winter/spring I usually ran 34/38. In really hot weather I ran the rear at 42. All of these "cold" temps as close to 20C (68F) as I could set them.

On the other hand I never, ever, considered Chris Harris an expert on much of anything except he has done a bunch of mechanical procedures correctly or incorrectly a whole lot of times.

On the BMWs I have owned, I've found the factory-recommended pressures to work well no matter what tire brand or style I was using.

And while I've found Mr. Harris' videos entertaining, he can some times epitomize the term bombastic.

Smittyblackstone, do you run those 185/55r17's on your R11? I thought I read that they needed a 5.5" wide rim and might rub the swing arm.

Yesterday I mounted Avon Spirit STs on my 99R1100RT replacing Metzeler Roadtec Z8. Felt great on first ride.

Road Pilots - R1150RT 2002

Greetings -
I’ve had good luck with Metzelers, Continentals (many years ago), & Michelin’s. My 2002 R1150RT rides mostly Michigan roads in the summer solo at 36/40 tire pressure, but I do hit some rallies out of state. I just bought Road Pilot 5 tires after having their RP3s & RP4s (13K miles on this last pair). Excellent wet grip, good mileage, smooth ride, not cheap.
But there are a ton of great tires out there right now.
Stay Safe & Healthy !
