I'm stumped and could sure use some smart people to help.

'02 R1150-RT
Battery started dying the past week. Charged through remote charging inputs and bike starts up instantly and runs fine. Let sit for a few hours and it's dead again. Removed tank, pulled battery, installed new battery and it died within a day. Bike is apart and charged both batteries and now I notice that I can hear a slight whine/whirring from the ABS control unit as soon as I connect the battery ground. I'm certain this has been draining the battery.

I noticed a 15A fuse blown, but I have no idea what fuse works what circuit.

Bumming in SoCal. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I also have an 02,
Standing next to the sidestand, count the fuses starting with the closest to you as #1, what # fuse is it?

It's the 14th fuse slot from the side-stand. When I put the new battery in, i had lots of sparks and it heated up the negative battery post quickly. I removed the negative lead within a minute....FYI.

There are only 10 fuse slots, can you post a photo?

Were were sparks coming from? It almost sounds like it was hooked up backwards (?) Also were there any accessory wires which were hooked up to the old battery?

This is an RT-P...I am guessing there are more fuses than a standard RT? Here's a picture of the fuse box.

There are several "spare" fuses in blank slots (loose) in that photo. Find them all and lay them on the work bench. Throw out any of those spares that are blown.

Then turn the lid to the fuse box upside down and match the ones that actually plug in to the numbers on the inside of the fuse box. Then what fuse # is it?

Below is an image of the laminated business cards that I made of the Stock fuses, the RT-P fuses and the Relay locations. These are from RT-P wiring diagrams and from my own testing.

Based on the position of the fuse that you point to, that one is for the Police radio and runs power to the rear of the RT-P under the trunk, where there are connectors and more relays for police lights and radio gear.

I suspect the you have a shorted wire along the rear frame or under the radio box/trunk plate. To remove the plate, remove all Allen head screws around the inside of the trunk. Then lift the trunk off, then the plate can be removed. You will then see all of the wiring, connectors and relays.

As part of converting my RT-P to a 2 seater, I removed all of these wires.
