Hey, so my driveshaft went out of phase due to the hub letting go. I got an EBay shaft coming but I couldn't get the shaft off the output shaft of the tranny. I tried the smack and pull to get the circ-clip to let go but NO!

I made a connector to attach to the drive shaft with my 5lb slide hammer. A couple good smacks with equal pulls and the damn thing is off. driveshaft puller.jpg
If you are in jam with this job, PM me and you can have the adapter provided you share it with whomever else needs it.

Excellent:thumb

I have used a slide hammer, but with many wraps of stranded wire. Your version a bit more refined.

BTW, sorry about the driveshaft issue

If the swingarm is off.
Cut a piece of 2x4 and lever driveshaft to the left.
Pops right off!

I use a big screwdriver through the right-side swingarm hole, prying the driveshaft backward at the same place GSAddict shows. You need to protect the threads with rags, plastic tubing, or something like that but doing so is pretty straightforward and nothing gets damaged.

On other bikes, they dam near fall off on their own, not mine.

I tried every lever method I could including have a buddy rap on the shaft with a dead blow and pry at the same time.

This one was super stubborn.

I need the sharp push from the hammer then a sudden and fast pull. Took about three tries but it came off.

Dang, you got one that was really on there! Nice rig you came up with to git R' done though.

I've seen GSAddict 2X4 two of them off there and they just popped right off! One was a 1200 and the other an 1100RTP that he was dismantling. I was there to help and learn but really I was actually in the way and making it all take longer... :blushing

Tearing a bike down to all it's parts and components really is my idea of a fun time. A lot to be learned there especially if you don't have to put it all back together!

Your not the only one to have a h*** of a time removing that driveshaft. When the one on our bike went south I had to remove the swing arm to get it off

I always take the swingarm off. I can't imagine a scenario when I wouldn't want to, even if it is just to get the driveshaft back on again.
