R100RS OEM Black With Gold Pinstripes ?

Happy New Year 2024 !!

Does anyone know if BMW Motorrad made the iconic RS in Black as a stock color ?
Or if they produced same with gold pinstripes ??

I searched Snowbum's page for R100RS. Only one entry for black in 1977-1978 and it was dull black. I don't think that's what you're thinking about.

I have never seen a stock black with gold pinstripe RS, at least not in the US. Maybe in the UK or Europe or Asia? St.

I've run across the mention of a John Player Special paint scheme before. Here's a picture of one posted on Phil Hawksley's site:

If you google "John Player Special" you'll see quite a few other projects that have been painted in that scheme.

I'm not certain, but I think that color scheme is originally from the Lotus race cars.
In any case, it's quite handsome!

Steve, yes, there were several John Player Specials Norton Commando, a Honda, Triumph, and I think a Ducati as well, maybe others.

BMWs seen in showrooms were painted in the colors country distributors ordered. This so they corresponded with the brochures which obviously were country specific.

Individuals could special order any color being used for any model in a given year. Special ordering probably happened more often in Germany than in the USA. In the Airhead era I never heard of it ever happening here.

The last generation RS we saw in the USA were mostly white ... those monolevers with the "RS" on the fairing. In Australia, they had black ones. You can see them in the Facebook R100RS group. You can also see an Amazon Green RS, a color ("green smoke") we in USA only saw on RTs.
