R bikes, F bikes whats the practical differences?

As others have said, one can tour on anything with two wheels and "comfort" is very individual and relative. I have ridden in all 48 on a completely stock Yamaha FZ1. Only thing I added was a soft bag on the seat behind me, large enough for a change of clothes and a toothbrush. While perhaps not as "comfortable" (whatever that term might mean to you) as my ST1100 or my Nomad or my current F800ST, the FZ1 remains the most fun bike I have ever ridden. Only reason I still do not have it is the chain drive got a bit tedious to clean and lube each night in the motel parking lot, rain or shine, hard surface or gravel/mud. The F800ST is the closest I could find with a belt drive.
