Not with a laser, but with strings or a long straightedge, and yes, there was an offset. And don’t ask which way, because A) it was back in the 80s and I can’t remember and B) it wouldn’t be the same for all Beemers—they don’t all mount the shaft on the same side of the bike. Easy to see for yourself, tho, with a spool of string and a pair of 4x8x16 concrete blocks and some tape.What would be really interesting would be to use a laser device to determine any offset in the centerlines of the two wheels. Has anybody done this?

Work is beginning to produce a 5 episode pilot series for Oilhead BMWs.
The style and format will be similar to the Airhead 247 Podcast (see link below) in that the program will feature interviews with independent mechanics, product developers and aficionados of the Oilhead BMW motorcycle (1994-2005) and a few other models beyond that year range.
