New to BMW, new to P-twin, new owner maintenance list

As of a few days ago, I joined the heady world of BMW ownership. My entry to the club is on a 2019 F750GS, which I picked up with only 600 miles on the odometer.

Unfortunately, I have no past maintenance records other than what the shop that sold it to me did as part of their "safety checks". Certainly, I don't expect it would have needed much, given the low miles. But I have no knowledge of whether it's ever had its break-in maintenance done.

So I start my journey on the forum with a few questions.

First, is there any way to determine if the break-in maintenance was done? I spoke with a local BMW dealer who had no info. Then I called the BMW dealer that sold it on consignment for the original owner in 2022, but they also had no maintenance records beyond their standard pre-sale checks.

Second, if I decide to have a dealer do the break-in maintenance, what's the going rate? Given BMW's reputation for costly service, I'm girding myself for the answer.

Third, what - if any - maintenance items should I look at trying to do on my own now that it's in my garage? For context, I would call myself a self-taught lower-intermediate wrencher. I don't necessarily enjoy working on my bikes (I'd rather be riding them!), but my biking budget dictates that I do as much of my own work as possible. And yes, I already have a GS-911 device on the short end of my gotta-have wish list.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Welcome to the forum!

I always like to have the "first" maintenance done by the dealer. I have found that it gives you a chance to see how well the dealer performed during the service and will help (IMO) if you need something in the future. The dealer should, hopefully, check for computer updates and reset the service reminder.

For working on the bike yourself, we have a couple of areas of interest-

We have the F-Twins index-

And, Thanks to Member Drneo66-

We have an extensive DIY section for the F-Twins-

Hope you enjoy your new ride.

If you did not receive a owners manual with the bike you can download one.
Select F-Modelle, then Scroll down and pick your F750GS

The 600 mile service may have been done several years ago so I would do it again.
BMW recommends changing the oil every year.

Welcome to BMW and the forum.

When changing the oil ALWAYS buy a new drain plug gasket. I notice this was not mention. Happy riding!
I agree with all the above post. :wave :dance

A 2019 is out of warranty and the Loncin parallel twin engines appear to be holding up well enough, so I’m not sure what might be gained by having a dealership do a 600 mile service. It’s mostly just an oil change and superficial checks and you should easily be able to do the same.

I have had 2 new BMWs this year. I decided to try the 310GS to see if I would ride it and found I have missed riding since I have had motorcycles for most of my life since my early teens. Now I purchased the F900GS and am having fun. To me the 310 got a $300 oil change and not much else, to say the least I was disappointed by that dealership. I purchased the 900 in Riverside Ca and have had a much different feeling. When they did the service they were thorough and I felt they really looked at the bike. So, my recommendation is to look at the reputation of your local dealer, mine does all the Police and Sherriff service in the county, and if they are good people doing good business I would pay for the service and make a personal relationship with my dealer. It has helped me dealing with questions and issues so I feel it was worth the money for the resources. Just my opinion.
