I took possession of my 1980 R100RS yesterday, so I thought it was time to join. It's a bike I've always wanted and so excited to finally have one and join the group. Hope the forums will help me better understand the bike and learn the do's / do nots of wrenching on it.

Currently also own a 88 R100GS and have owned a few other Boxers in the past. I've been a Ducati guy for a long time and always wanted a R100RS for long distance and riding in the mountains.

If you can ride in NYC, you can ride anywhere ... And 25 miles / 40 kilometers from Manhattan I can put you on beautiful mountain roads. If your in the area, let's ride!

Welcome to the forum Greg!
The Airhead community here has excellent info so you should be good to go.
Looks like you are up and running- cool avatar, but if you need help- just ask.

Welcome! With a name that includes "Desmo", it was safe to say you know your way around Ducatis. Getting out of NYC safely is the key...but you're right...lots of places to ride!! Shows us a picture of the new RS.

Welcome Greg. I grew up on SI, work in midtown and live in Orange County. Feel free to reach out for a ride.

Welcome. I used to live in Bergen County for MANY years. I think I road many of the miles you speak of starting 25 miles outside NYC. Do you ride in the Bear Mtn. area?

New in NYC

Welcome to the Forum. Check out the Regional Northeast forum for information on the 21st annual Airheads at the Aerodrome gathering. There will be plenty of RS bikes there and a Friday tech day on site. We still have some room left.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I am 'froM' New York City, could not figure out how to edit the subject.

Harriman Park and Bear Mountain are the easiest local destinations to ride to that have nice roads. From there, it's any direction north.

I will make sure to be at the aerodome in June. Trying to attach a photo here without luck. I did create a folder of photos of the RS.

75 mi from NYC puts you at the Delaware Water Gap. Pretty open from there west.

Umm that depends on which direction you take from NYC. 75 miles north puts you in Orange county and the gateway to the Catskill park which itself has great riding.

Suggestions for attaching/uploading a photo are here, posts #12-14:

The members can't really change the titles, but I'll edit the title for you. :thumb

Kurt, thanks for the correction and information about posting.

The Catskills is the direction I mostly take from home. Between Cold Spring, the Taconic Parkway and into Mass. is also wonderful day long trips.

Figured out how to add a photo of my bike!

Welcome to the club/forums. I hear tell that the national this year is in your state. Might make for a decent ride out of the city this summer.
