Nav 5 Updates

I have a Nav 5 on a 2016 R1200GS. Garmin Express says I have updates when I connect the unit to my computer. When I try to get the update I get the message we're having trouble connecting to the server. I got the same message two weeks ago. Puzzled.
This mostly started because the GPS won't direct me to an interstate when I really need to. I have checked the "avoid" selection and it shouldn't be doing this. Puzzled.
Thoughts?

Do you have "curvy roads" turned on instead of "fastest" or "shortest" route?

Which version of Garmin Express and on Mac or PC? Occasional hiccups between Express and the mother ship do happen but usually clear when tried another day. I’d guess it’s possible an older version of Express could have an issue, so it might be worth checking your settings in Express and checking for the latest update.

Best,
DeVern
