Even the introduction of the Hard Enduro BMW G 650 Xchallenge, the direction: Frames and swing layout for improved traction off the road, light weight and handy chassis, dynamic drive. The BMW G 450 X BMW motorcycle goes much further and there is not klassen??blichen design features satisfied.

In the area of drive and chassis were high-tech solutions, adapted to the terrain sports tradition of the house and build the brand off the road a fascinating independent profile.

306966430_uncRG-L.jpg

The concept of BMW G 450 X is based on the objective of the masses
as close as possible to concentrate on focus and a chassis design to achieve the perfectly to the requirements of the Sports Centre adapts. The central element of this design is the amalgamation of the rear axle bearing arm with the axis of rotation for the drive pinion. This eliminates the length change, when the chain and Ausfedern and the influence of Endantriebs on driving behaviour are minimized. Other discharges of this unique technical approach at the same wheelbase as the competition is a much longer swingarm and maximum traction in the Enduro Sport with its extreme demands on man and machine tangible benefits.

306845524_FkzB8-L.jpg

Elementary for the overall design is the result of the merger case of swinging storage and pinion axis obtained in the course length. It provides not only a long arm, but also a further back shifted location for the modern, performed by 50 high-horsepower DOHC-Einzylindermotor. Its cylinder was now more inclined forward and created space for so long, straight Ansaugwege. It was also an ideal position for injection and dual throttle valve system. This helps the engine without performance degradation to the Euro III emission standards which would motorcycle in this category is not standard.

Other design advantages: Airbox is protected and streamlined above the engine before the bench. As a result of the consistently implemented, central mass concentration near the focus is on the 8 litres of petrol fassende (ECE, 7l U.S. version) under the seat position. His filling is below an opening in the back of the seat. The reserve will function on a warning light in the cockpit.

The starters sitting in front of the engine, the battery is dirt-protected and easily accessible directly behind the head tax in the top frame triangle. The air filter is rectangular, planes wet element, by a locked drawer mechanism is very simple, safe, clean and extremely quickly to change. To exchange the right, with a quick fixed Tankattrappen coverage decreased and the air filter drawer pulled out.

In amount of the tax is the head Ansaugschnorchel, whose position hochgelegene advantages in water passages or dust development. The seat of the BMW G 450 X consists of a special piece of foam plastic. It has neither a reference, it still builds on a foundation or a tub, which weight advantages.

Another independent design feature is the relocation of the clutch directly to the crankshaft. A position that a sophisticated frame construction allowed the frame tubes can be completely straight from the wings to the storage driving head. This brings maximum rigidity with both low weight and minimal use of materials. Other plus points were that overall arrangement for the cooler. This now had enough space to piece to be. This allowed additional hoses and thus weight can be saved.

306952053_DAbnF-L.jpg

In the development of the BMW G 450 X was the focus of ergonomic design on the fahraktiven interpretation. Starting from the head tax to the rear part of the bench, the machine kept above narrow, giving the driver a maximum room for manoeuvre. Especially when driving in standing, the pilot benefits, because abolition of the tank at this point more space is available and significantly narrow the motorcycle can be held.

306990083_FTMMh-L-1.jpg

In this configuration, the G 450 X the first BMW Enduro, which consistently on professional competition to use was developed. In the area they can take advantage of their unique design features like no other vehicle full coverage. The effective concentration of the masses to the focus by the unique swing-drive storage eliminated effects, the resulting low-schlei?ƒ chain and pinion, the extreme, to a 250-Crosser-like handling, while enormous track stability, low weight, the powerful drive and the high spring elements provide the ambitious sports enduro rider constructive reasoned advantages in tough competition and unlimited driving pleasure. Based on the opportunities that exist for their pilots in store, the G 450 X related to the harsh operating off-road terrain the most powerful BMW ever.

A committed specialist team of engineers and mechanics, which is also home for many years, sports grounds, this new model at BMW motorcycle to the motto "from enthusiastic professionals for enthusiastic professionals". The BMW G 450 X leads already in the BMW G 650 Xchallenge realized consistently off-road competence in the area of professional sport enduro. She weighs approximately the same power about 40 kilograms less than the G 650 Xchallenge and is the first draft to the last detail tailored to the needs of the ambitious and success Enduro sports driver. As a completely independent and absolutely exceptional motorcycle is the BMW G 450 X a pure sports equipment, but of course, standard on all roads for approval the necessary attachments. So you can, as opposed to class standard, with the BMW G 450 X problems on its own axis route to the house.

The innovative, patented technology of the single-sport enduro concept has been throughout the year 2007 in fierce competition to use all relevant events of experienced and successful racers as Sascha Eckert, Simo Kirssi and Jo?½l Smets intensively tested, developed and coordinated. Today, the motorcycle

BMW named BEST-OF-THE-BEST in Total Quality Experience by Strategic Vision for Overall Brand and its X5 Sports Activity Vehicle
06/02/2008

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - June 2, 2008... Reflecting the sentiments of automobile consumers, on May 28 BMW was named the top leader of Strategic Vision's Total Quality IndexÔäó in the categories of Best Brand and Luxury Utility for its 2008 X5 Sports Activity Vehicle. The San Diego research firm based its Total Quality ExperienceÔäó rankings on the ratings received by new vehicle owners in 19 product segments.

The Strategic Vision Total Quality IndexÔäó is the premier measure of new vehicle owner satisfaction, asking buyers to rate all aspects of the ownership experience, from buying and owning to performance and driving. It is a unique and complete measure of the total ownership experience that encompasses positive and negative product experience, reliability and dealership experience energized by the emotional response.

"BMW is honored to be named leader in the categories of Best Brand and Luxury Utility on Strategic Vision's Top Quality Index," said Tom Purves, President and CEO of BMWNA. "As the index rankings directly reflect the views and opinions of our target audience, these honors serve as a tribute to the hard work of everyone at BMW and are affirmation that we are continuing to be successful in providing the ultimate ownership experience for our customers."

The Total Quality IndexÔäó score is calculated using multi-variate statistical techniques that measure the correlations of all aspects of the vehicle ownership experience with initial perception of quality; overall perception of satisfaction; willingness to be an advocate for the brand; emotional attachment to vehicle; future purchase intention associated with the brand; and overall experience with the vehicle.

The Total Quality IndexÔäó was calculated from the responses of 20,655 buyers who bought 2008 models in September, October and November of 2007. In the category of Best Brand, BMW received a top score of 911 and in the category of Luxury Utility, BMW's X5 SAV earned the top score of 907. Based on a 1000 point scale, scores typically range from 750 to 900. Segment leaders range from 880 to 930, with segment averages ranging between 825 to 900. Generally, scores over 800 are good and those over 850 are terrific, although in some segments a score in the low 800's is not very competitive. Scores in the 900's are exceptional. Strategic Vision has presented Total Quality annually since 1995.

Since its incorporation in 1989, Strategic Vision has studied consumer and constituent decision-making for the widest variety of clients, including most auto manufacturers, Coca-Cola, American Airlines, Procter and Gamble, as well as for most advertising agencies. Its unique expertise is identifying consumers' motivational hierarchies, including the values that shape perceptions and capture the customers' emotional responses and drive behavior. The firm's in-depth Discovery Interviews and ValueCentered Surveys provide comprehensive, integrated and actionable outcomes.

BMW ANNOUNCES MODEST MID-YEAR PRICE INCREASE FOR 2008 PRODUCT LINE EFFECTIVE JUNE 1
06/02/2008

Price Protection Offered for All Customer-Ordered Vehicles Prior to May 9
Woodcliff Lake, NJ - June 2, 2008... BMW announced today that it has implemented a modest mid-year price increase of less than one percent for its 2008 product line, effective as of June 1. This is the first price increase in over one year despite continually rising raw materials costs and ongoing exchange rate pressure. Minor increases have also been made to selected options/packages, as well as the vehicle destination charge.

The base price increase will affect the entire 2008 BMW product line, with the exception of the BMW 1 Series, M3 and X6 models, which all went on sale this past spring. The destination charge increase and the selected option price increases affect all models. Additionally, anyone who factory ordered a BMW vehicle prior to May 9 that will be delivered after June 1, will receive price protection from these increases.

"Despite a mixed economic outlook in the US market, these measures are in line with pricing trends in the automotive industry," said Tom Purves, Chairman of BMW of North America, LLC. BMW has historically held its price adjustment to well below the US inflation rate. The last base price increase, of 0.5 percent, was instituted in March 2007.
[Not this announcement does not address Motorrad pricing changes if any.]

TOPPING-OUT CEREMONY AT THE BMW PLANT LEIPZIG
06/02/2008

Leipzig. The new buildings at the BMW Plant Leipzig are taking shape - the right point to celebrate the topping-out ceremony, today, 30 May. The high point of the ceremony for the pressing facility and the production building for doors, bonnets and tailgates is raising the topping-out wreath and delivering the topping-out speech. The new Minister President of Saxony, Stanislaw Tillich, Leipzig's Mayor Burkhard Jung and the President of Leipzig District Administration Walter Christian Steinbach, as well as other representatives from politics and local government celebrated the topping-out ceremony with around 300 employees working on the construction project and other guests. Frank-Peter Arndt, BMW Board Member in charge of production, thanked the companies and employees involved in construction for the work they had carried out to date and praised the positive and committed cooperation with the representatives from the political sphere and local-authority administration: "When we were deciding on a site for this project, it was already clear that Leipzig took a committed and pragmatic approach." This was a significant factor in the decision in favour of Leipzig.

The sum invested in the expansion of this plant - for buildings and production technology - is likely to exceed 100 million euros. Up to now, BMW has invested more than 1.2 billion euros in Leipzig since 2001. Approximately 150 new jobs are projected for this new production complex. The Minister President of Saxony Stanislaw Tillich welcomed this development: "The investment clearly indicates that BMW is committed to Saxony as the Land of the Car and to the pool of highly-qualified skilled employees based in this state. I am very pleased that BMW is creating more attractive jobs and also showing young people that they have outstanding career perspectives in Saxony."

A new pressing facility forms the core of the expansion. The press line is 100 metres long and almost the length of a football field. Starting in 2009, steel sheets will be pressed to form car-body components. At present, these parts are still being supplied fully formed from other sites. A production building for manufacturing doors, bonnets and tailgates is also being constructed as part of the expansion programme for the existing body construction. This is also scheduled to come onstream next year. The Leipzig plant is expanding the level of expertise and capacity on site.

The plant site measures a total of 208 hectares and the new production buildings are being constructed at the north-east of the site, in the immediate vicinity of the current bodywork production building. The complex has floorspace measuring some 26,000 m??. A six-stage press with total compressive force of 10,300 metric tons will be used to form more than 40 different components. Steel sheet in the order of 55,000 metric tons is likely to be processed each year.

The new facilities will be designed so that the massive application of force will scarcely be perceptible outside the building. The press facility will be constructed on low-vibration mountings and designed to reduce noise as much as possible.
Another positive effect of the increased production of components at the Leipzig plant is a significant reduction in the resources expended on logistics for materials supply. In future, the plant will require fewer truck deliveries. The BMW Group is therefore making a further contribution to sustainable and environmentally friendly production.

BMW X1 will be produced in Leipzig.

BMW Board Member in charge of production Frank-Peter Arndt also announced today that the new BMW X1 will be produced in Leipzig. A precise date for commencement of production and market launch of the X1 will be announced later.
Four models are already rolling off the production lines at the BMW plant in Leipzig: Apart from the 3 Series saloon, three versions of the BMW 1 Series - three-door, coup?® and convertible. The three 1 Series models are produced in Leipzig exclusively for the global market. Daily production is currently running at a peak of 700 vehicles a day. This means that the plant is currently operating at slightly in excess of the capacity originally planned.

Since the start of production in March 2005, the number of vehicles produced slightly exceeds 400,000 vehicles - the 400,000th automobile was manufactured this week.

Around 5,400 employees are currently working at this site. Approximately 2,600 of these jobs are carried out by BMW employees, the other operatives work for various service partners.

Today, the Leipzig plant is an important element in the global BMW Group production network comprising 23 plants in twelve countries. About ten percent of all automobiles supplied worldwide by the BMW Group (BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce) come from Leipzig. Every eighth BMW - i.e. more than twelve percent - of total BMW production worldwide is "Made in Leipzig".

Riders News - Riders in Kenya - May 2008
Dear friends, colleagues and supporters,

Father’s Day is on the 15th June, so this month we look at one father whose life has been turned around thanks to Riders for Health. Bernard, and his family, were facing an uncertain and bleak future until Riders began working with local organisation AID Village Clinics. Riders are helping the organisation use motorcycles to reach families scattered across hundreds of miles of grasslands in southeast Kenya.

Riders supporting families in Kenya
In the Mbirikani region of Kenya, Riders works with Africa Infectious Disease Village Clinics (AIDVC). AIDVC’s clinic and outreach health workers provide health care to thousands of Maasai families. By training the outreach health workers how to ride their bikes safely, and by training and supporting their technician, AIDVC’s health workers can reach even the most isolated communities.

One of the biggest problems in the region is HIV/AIDS. Regular contact with AIDVC’s health workers is the difference between life and death, which is why reliable transport is so crucial.

John Kaseenchi is a Clinical Officer from AIDVC. He regularly delivers anti-retroviral drugs and other health care to Maasai families. Bernard, Agnes and their daughter are one such family. Before these regular visits, Bernard was losing his battle with HIV/AIDS and his family were struggling to survive. ‘I was very weak,’ Bernard says, ‘but how could I travel to get treatment? I could not afford the bus fare. I only have two cows, and how many times can you sell two cows?’

The trust between patient and health worker is crucial in the successful treatment of HIV/AIDS. Reliable transport has meant John has been able to make regular visits and build up trust with Bernard. Bernard is now receiving the regular treatment he needs. He is fitter and can support his family again.

‘I can only say thank you. I am well, I do my daily chores, and I am building a hut. I do what any person does. I am very happy about the motorcycles. They are saving lives,’ says Bernard.

John’s visits also mean that Bernard’s youngest daughter, who still lives at home, receives regular check-ups and has up-to-date immunisations.

This year Riders will begin working with more partners like AIDVC, training more health workers to ride and maintain motorcycles so that they can help parents like Bernard and Agnes provide a healthier future for their children.

Send a virtual Father’s Day gift through Riders
If you are still wondering what to get your father for Father’s Day why not help support our work in Kenya, and across Africa, by making a gift donation in his name to Riders? No matter what the size of the gift you can be sure that it will make a big difference to the people we work with.

To make a gift donation, please call Astrid, from our fundraising team on 01327 300047, by the 11th June. We will provide a Father’s Day postcard and a Riders pin-badge for you to pass on to the recipient of your gift. (An administrative fee of ?ú1.50 will be added to each donation.)

Last chance to buy your Day of Champions tickets
We are pleased to announce that we have been able to release a limited number of ride-in tickets for Day of Champions before the British MotoGP at Donington Park, on Thursday 19th June. There are only a very limited number of tickets being released, and they are on sale now.
