I tend to publish press releases from BMW without comment. The MotherShip News section is normally given over to BMW to speak in their voice. I post other stories in other sections as context and counter points to what is said in this section. The job of understanding and interpreting is left to you the reader.

The following is a very important announcement for BMW. I am certain that I would want to trade places with Hans Blesse as much as I would like the perks and the salary he will garner in his new position. There are several nuggets within the press release to take in.

What does the word provisional mean? Is this the beginning of reorganization at BMW Motorrad?

The head of BMW Motorrad UK has been recently quoted in the press as admitting BMW has a quality problem and has laid part of that problem at rapid growth negatively impacting quality. It may not be unexpected to have a marketing head to talk about increasing sales; however, I am a bit nervous as I read of the commitment to the 150,000 per year goal that is included without even a veiled comment of some of the down sides BMW is facing.

I am excited about the talk of new products for new markets. You have to love that idea even if you are a die hard boxer fan. The Roundel is planning for the future.

He has a formidable task ahead of him. BMW motorcycle sales have risen drastically over the last year. At the same time BMW market share is declining. The largest in its home market in Germany, it has seen its market share decline over the course of this decade. As Europe has prospered so have other manufactures both from that continent and from Milwaukee taking chunks out of BMWs historic share. The continuing economic conditions will challenge adding the numbers called for. New markets, such as China, beckon but are they markets that will buy the products BMW has to offer?

This small press release worth paying attention to.

Hans Blesse heads BMW Motorrad sales and marketing
09/15/2008

Munich. As of September 1st, Hans Blesse (48) has taken on management of sales and marketing worldwide at BMW Motorrad. The division had been provisionally run by Hendrik von Kuenheim, Head of BMW Motorrad, since April 2008.

Blesse began his BMW career in 1987 with the subsidiary BMW Canada which was newly established at the time. Having filled various posts at BMW Canada, most recently Head of After Sales, he moved to BMW Spain in 2005 and took on the After Sales Division there until August 2008.

He has had a passion for motorcycles since his youth, so it was a logical step for him to accept the offer of BMW Motorrad: "This allows me to turn my passion into my profession," says Blesse. "We are looking to increase motorcycle sales significantly in the years to come. To do this, we won't just be focusing on our traditional segments but also penetrating market segments which are completely new to BMW Motorrad, with innovative and highly emotional motorcycles. I am very much looking forward to the challenge."

Does anyone know where to find fall colour guide for the Mescalero Rez, Lincoln NF (Lincoln, Otero and Chavez Ctys) and Carson /Stanta Fe NFs (Colfax, Rio Arriba, Mora, and Los Alamos Ctys)? (The USFS does not have a link for entire state let alone ind. forests. (for some odd reason the USFS places Kansas and Nebraska in the Rocky Mountain Region but not New Mexico)

That was a short hiatus, John.

It was to be just a few days off. I forgot to give a return date.

I was not able to find the a guide to the regions you list.

How the map gets carved up is often the source of great amusemnet.

As I recall last the Forest Service guide brought areas live as colors moved south. Some of the areas are not linked yet because they are not reporting anything. I will keep an eye out as I gather information for the Morning Reads
