Formula BMW Germany - Races 17 + 18 - Hockenheim, 12-14.10.2007

17-year-old Jens Klingmann takes the title.
Hockenheim (14th October 2007). Jens Klingmann from Leimen (Eifelland Racing) crossed the start/finish line of the Hockenheimring on Sunday as the overall winner of Formula BMW Germany 2007, punching the air in triumph. "Once I realised I had made it, I was just yelling at the top of my voice during the race," said an exuberant Klingmann after the presentation ceremony. All the Formula BMW Junior needed was a third-place finish to trounce his team-mate and toughest rival Daniel Campos-Hull (ESP/Eifelland Racing) and take the title. The young driver from Baden-W??rttemberg concluded the season with a tally of nine wins, 14 podiums and seven poles.

Races 17 and 18 of Formula BMW Germany delivered some nailbiting races and a host of surprises to wind up the season. Saturday saw Philipp Eng (AUT/ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg) emerge as the race winner before subsequently being disqualified due to a technical irregularity on his car. That handed Adrien Tambay his first victory, while Klingmann and guest driver Sebastian Saavedra Ferreira (COL/AM-Holzer Rennsport) moved up into second and third place. On Sunday the race was interrupted on lap ten following a collision between Eng and Quinn, which saw the latter's car turning over several times. But race medic Dr Zerbian gave the all-clear: "The Formula BMW seat system is ingenious. We were able to rescue the driver from the car along with the seat in less than a minute." Quinn gave no signs of having suffered any serious injury, but was flown to the clinic in Ludwigshafen for a precautionary check-up.

Campos-Hull bade farewell to the final race of Formula BMW Germany with a stroke of bad luck. He made contact with Wittmann's car and had to bury his title hopes in the gravel trap. In the overall rankings he finished second with 622 points, behind Klingmann and his tally of 699. Eng ultimately came third (595) ahead of Tambay (573).

This season's close competition in Formula BMW Germany was exemplified by six different winners in 18 races. In all, the grid had drivers from 15 countries lining up. Thanks to the new points system the title winner wasn't decided until the very last race, while the rookie classification also kept everyone on tenterhooks until the final. Marco Wittmann (Markt Erlbach/Josef Kaufmann Racing) virtually had the rookie crown in his grasp before having to abandon the final race after an accident. As a result, Adrien Tambay, son of ex-Formula One driver Patrick Tambay, claimed the "Rookie of the year" title with 573 points. It means he can look forward to a BMW support package of 75,000 euros provided he signs up for the new Formula BMW Europe next year. Second and third place went to Wittmann (570) and Kevin Mirocha (Hamm/ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg, 389).
Thanks to its consistently good results throughout the season, Team Eifelland Racing from Dudeldorf pocketed the team title. With a total of 1,363 points, the squad directed by Albert Hamper consigned their colleagues from Josef Kaufmann Racing (1,223) and ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg/M??cke Motorsport (1,140) to the runner-up spots.

On a 500 square meter stand in the mobile world, BMW as the world's leading manufacturer of premium cars, the topic of "Innovation" in the center, especially BMW Efficient Dynamics and BMW Clean Energy. The BMW models presented here are in their vehicle and class performance standards for the reduction of consumption and CO2 emissions.
To the fascination of innovative vehicle concepts and technologies to demonstrate BMW presented on a "coupe-road" in the center of the exhibition stand of both the new BMW 135i coupe and the new BMW 635d Coupe. The sportiest variant of the BMW 1 Series thrilled with incomparable driving fun and confident with a relative to its capabilities very conservative fuel consumption. The BMW 635d Coupe is the first vehicle of its segment, in which a diesel engine for fascinating throughput and efficiency provides. Another attraction invites the BMW M3 driving simulator to the visitors, in a new dimension of driving dynamics advance.

Thanks to the long-term well as consistently pursued development strategy "BMW Efficient Dynamics", it succeeded BMW, gasoline consumption and CO2 emissions in the 2008 model again significantly reduced. Meanwhile, the CO2 emissions from 1920 BMW models already in a maximum of 140 grams per kilometer. This is the innovative power of the BMW Group legible. The development of measures for the current model year, BMW has before about five years ago. The results are now standard in a variety of models available.

Even in the period between 1990 and 2005, BMW in the commitment of the Association of German Automobile Manufacturers (VDA), the model of its fleet CO2 emissions in Germany by about 30%. This progress is based-then as now-on by the development strategy BMW Efficient Dynamics defined default, each new model and the driving dynamics and the cost-effectiveness compared to the respective predecessor model. In conjunction with the outstanding competence of BMW in the area of engine development today, this strategy leads to vehicles registered in their respective competitive environment in both categories set standards. The optimization of consumption and emission values is not specific to individual models, but in all new vehicles part of the standard product substance. The selection of measures is part of BMW Efficient Dynamics each model.

As an exemplary representative of the development strategy BMW BMW Efficient Dynamics shows in Stuttgart the BMW 118d, with the fuel-efficient diesel engine in its class drives. With an output of 105 kW/143 hp and a maximum torque of 300 Nm allows the aggregate values of acceleration of 8.9 seconds in the three and 9.0 seconds at five. Despite this impressive momentum, the approximate average fuel consumption in EU-Testzyklus on only 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers. The CO2 emissions remain with 119 grams per kilometer remarkably low.

Particularly impressive displays the BMW 135i coupe how great the driving pleasure in a compact can be. This variant reaches a vehicle in this class unique performance level. Under the hood has a 3.0 liter line six-cylinder engine with Twin Turbo and gasoline direct injection (High Precision Injection), 225 kW/306 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Newton meters mobilized. The sporting potential of the BMW 135i coupe will be in a relationship with his impressive efficiency. The two seater coup?® accelerates in only 5.3 seconds from zero to 100 km / h. His average consumption in EU-Testzyklus still only amounts to 9.2 liters per 100 kilometers.

Your job as a value sportlichstes and also progressivstes offer in the segment consolidates in the model year 2008, the BMW 3 series. At the Stuttgart show is the BMW 318i Touring to see powered by the fuel-efficient 2.0-liter gasoline engine in the segment. The one with gasoline direct injection (High Precision Injection) in lean operating equipped helps drive the BMW 318i Touring with a capacity of 105 kW/143 hp and at an average consumption of 6.0 liters per 100 kilometers. The CO2 emissions amounted to 144 grams per kilometer.

How attractive is efficient and sporty elegance dynamic linking can experience the exhibition visitors in Stuttgart on the example of the BMW 335i convertible. The most powerful variant of the new BMW 3 Series Convertible makes the 225 kW/306 hp line six-cylinder engine with Twin Turbo and High Precision Injection an acceleration from zero to 100 km / h in just 5.8 seconds. The average fuel consumption of the BMW 335i convertible is moving with 9.9 liters per 100 kilometers on a performance for this class very moderate level.

By a wide margin, the dynamic BMW 520d sedan competition in terms of CO2 emissions behind. Driven by an all-aluminum four-cylinder diesel engine with common-rail injection of the third generation sedan, the one in comparison to its predecessor by 10 kW to 130 kW/177 hp increased performance and accelerated in 8.3 seconds from zero to 100 km / h. The vehicle in this segment unique low average consumption of 5.1 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers, and the CO2 of 136 grams per kilometer attest to the highest engineering.

Also, the BMW 6 particularly impressed by advanced technology: By presented in Stuttgart BMW 635d BMW coupe shows how attractive the diesel engine thanks to its tractive effort and efficiency through even in this segment can be. With 210 kW/286 hp and a maximum torque of 580 Newton meters of the 3.0-liter Series six-cylinder diesel with Variable Twin Turbo athletic performance. The spurt to 100 km / h managed the coupe in 6.3 seconds. The average consumption is unique in this vehicle segment - 6.9 liters.

With an enlarged engine selection for the BMW X5, the benchmark for efficiency in model year 2008, at the Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV) again later. Kraftvoll-souver?ñne locomotion particularly in the form of economic embodies above all, the new BMW X5 3.0d, where the 210 kW/286 hp line six-cylinder diesel engine with Variable Twin Turbo an acceleration from zero to 100 km / h in only 7.0 seconds . 8.2 liters per 100 kilometers, the average consumption according EU-Zyklus. This is the new BMW X5 3.0d to a maximum range of 1,035 kilometers and so fascinated by a segment on its outstanding long-haul capability.

On the front-runner in the segment in terms of efficiency, the new BMW X3 2.0d. His all-aluminum four-cylinder diesel engine makes 130 kW/177 hp and mobilized a maximum torque of 350 Newton meters. With a EU-Testzyklus identified in the average consumption of 6.5 liters per 100 kilometers and a CO2 of 172 grams per kilometer reached, the new BMW X3 2.0d model in the 2008 Best values in its vehicle class.

Future technology, which is used today, presents BMW in Stuttgart with the first hydrogen-powered luxury sedan for everyday traffic. The BMW Hydrogen 7 is the result of the energy strategy BMW Clean Energy, with the development of concepts for the sustainable movement automobile of the future ahead. This vehicle represents innovation of the high sense of responsibility of the BMW Group for society and the environment. How many of us worry about bike theft?

LoJack Corp. says a recent study done with the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) reveals that most motorcyclists are at a high risk of having their bikes stolen.

More than 1,800 respondents participated in the 10-question Motorcycle Theft Prevention Fitness Test on the LoJack website during July and August. Of those, LoJack and the NICB found 67 percent of motorcycle owners who responded to the survey were at a high risk for theft because they are not taking necessary precautions, such as securing their bike to an immovable object when parked in a lot or garage and arming their bikes with theft deterrents (alarms, kill switches, etc.) and recovery systems.

Been to a lot of rallies this year and have yet to see any measures or precautions taken to prevent bike theft.

The organisers of the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show today announced that the 2007 Show has been moved to new dates and will now take place between the 22nd November and 2nd December. The Show was originally due to be held from the 25th October ÔÇô 4th November 2007, however following the announcement of new dates for the 2007 Milan Motorcycle Show (6th ÔÇô 11th November), the decision was taken to reschedule the NEC Show to avoid any date clash and safeguard its position as one of the key motorcycle events in Europe, whilst allowing every potential exhibitor the option of supporting both events.

The Milano show
will now take place between the 22nd November and 2nd December.

When you watch the YouTube video, at the very end the Milan Motorcycle show is given as the location when new BMW models will be released especially the F800GS.

From the Gillette Article

The rally is a closed event that is not open to the public. But Zimmerman said it is open to club members and their guests, as well as BMW owners who are not members of the organization.

Is this the perception we want to project?
:scratch

In Vermont the event was open to the anyone who wanted to pay the price of admission. Is there a change in policy or a mistake in the Rapid City newspaper article?

Paul,
Maybe a misunderstanding...(I can't access the YouTube right now). I think what's happening is that the NEC (UK) show, http://www.motorcycleshow.co.uk/mci2007/opening_times.html, has been rescheduled to 22 Nov-02 Dec, ; I think EICMA/ Milano continues on original dates 06-11 Nov,
http://www.eicma.it/moto/en/publishing.aspx?PageId=53&PagePath=2-.

So maybe we'll still see the 800GS as early as 06 November:D
