BMW PressClub Italy ÔÇô Translation by Google
International Trophy GS 2008 is the adventure began. The team representing 5 countries are participating parties at a time in Tunisia
15.10.2008

Milan. The International Trophy 2008 GS was launched, the adventure begins: ten days in the saddle BMW F 800 GS in which you must browse through the desert, to show physical strength, skill mechanics in addition to all that unexpected
nature can offer.

The five Team - representing the participating countries: USA, Japan, Spain, Germany and Italy - will challenge with the aim of winning the first edition of the International Challenge.

Each team is composed of motorcyclists selected in their respective countries. In Italy the selection was held at the school off road BMW Motorrad GS Academy, based in Castelfalfi in the province of Florence. Selection was attended by 80 riders - chosen from among more than two thousand members. The six Italian representatives have been identified based on their driving ability, technical skills, physical training and knowledge of English.

The six pilots selected to represent Italy in international competition are:
1. James Algisi (Bergamo)
2. Berton Stefano (Belluno)
3. Ennio Bragagni (Arezzo)
4. Claudio Guerrini (Milan)
5. David Nicoloso (Torino)
6. Carlo Tenconi (Milan)

The caravan started this morning from Milan at a time of Genoa to embark and ferry to Tunisia.

The 5 Team, led by the Tunisian desert by the "dakar" Beppe Gualino, Tunisia reach after 22 hours of crossing, Oct. 17.

The path of the GS Trophy 2008 unfolds between the dunes between the oasis Xsara-Ghilane and El Farouar, perhaps the most challenging. We will therefore through Chott el Djerid, the largest salt lake in the Sahara (in the running for the palm of new "seventh wonder of the world"). The raid will end back in the direction of Hammamet, but not before the most challenging stretch of 30 km on the sand. The total route is 1700 km long.

The return is scheduled Oct. 25. Only then can we know the verdict of the desert.

Wonderings

November 4th may be a date worthy of a mental note in addition to elections.

BMW MOTORRAD AND HUSQVARNA PRESS CONFERENCES AT THE EICMA 2008
10/14/2008

Munich. We are pleased to invite all journalists to attend the BMW Motorrad press conference at this year's EICMA in Milan on Tuesday, November 04th 2008 at 12:00 am at the BMW Motorrad stand in Hall 18.

Press material on the new models will be available after the press conference at the counters and at about 1 pm at the BMW PressClub at www.press.bmwgroup.com.

Further we would like to invite all representatives of the press to the Husqvarna press conference

on Tuesday, November 04th 2008 at 12:30 pm at the Husqvarna stand in Hall 18.

Innocuous organizational press release or portent?

It is not unusual for BMW PressClub to have such a release be part of their pre-show announcements. I bumped into versions that included it in several sites I check for the Morning Reads beyond BMWÔÇÖs PressClubs. Yet Milan is the other big show for new releases, so I just have to wonder.

ÔÇó What will Husqvarna have to offer for new models? A few pre show releases have appeared on the internet. Do they have more in their bag of tricks?

ÔÇó Will we have a better understanding of how BMW will manage the relationship between the Husqvarna and BMW Motorrad product lines once this show is over?

ÔÇó Peter Muller (I have to get an umlaut key) Vice President Development and Model Lines BMW Motorrad gave us this teaser during his speech at INTERMOT:

As far as our off-road plans for the 2009 season are concerned, we will inform you later this year.

At this point I can only say this much: we have a lot planned next year and a couple of
surprises in store.

Milan is latter in this year. Is this when we will find out what Mr. Muller was alluding to? Will a MX variant of the G450X be announced? Will some other form of G_ _ _ X model be forth coming in Milan? Will BMW factory racing involve NA in 2009?

ÔÇó The speech seems to portend a dirt related announcement, but could there be a road racing side be in the form of a S675RR triple I have speculated about in other wonderings?

ÔÇó While dirt riders are at the potentially big display at the Husqvarna stand will BMW take the opportunity of scooter friendly ItalyÔÇÖs Milan Show to announce a long rumored scooter?

Just Wondering

THE END

We all seek to find our place in this big, confusing world, and motorcycle manufacturers are no different. BMW Motorrad is known to endorse the discovery process by producing motorcycles that give riders the ability to go farther. Perhaps no machine in the Beemer stable epitomizes that more than the GS line. With a perennial best-seller in the R1200GS and GS Adventure, the German propeller gang has been seeking to bring that same mentality to a whole new segment of riders, those with weaker muscles and smaller bank accounts.

Good find Mika. :bikes

The ASCII numbers for characters to be generated by HTML using the following format:
"&#(ASCII number);"

is the umlaut generator (220)

Click here for all the ASCII codes. Used to use them in the radio shack but that was a long time ago ...

As I recall it take a bit of "futzing" around :banghead

but once you get the hang of it all those foreign characters and well as fractions like 1/4 and 1/2 are at your fingertips.
