Mobile Phone holder 2006 R1200RT

Looking for a good Mobile Phone holder for my 2006 R1200RT. I acquired the bike last fall and it is time to do something about this. I want the phone in front of me so I can use it for google maps, but preferably not obscuring the instruments. Most of the options I see online assume round handlebars.

Givi makes a nifty Smart Bar, but the dang thing ain't cheap, and after that I still have to buy the mobile phone mounting device.

Who is using what on R1200RT bikes?

When I had my 2005 RT, I used a handlebar mirror stem mount. I bought a cell phone belt clip holder for my phone and screwed it onto the mount (had to remove the belt clip portion and the plate on the mount). Techmount makes one but the stem isn't as long as the one I used. Radarbusters has one also that is a complete kit for a good price.

I use a Ram X-Mount (or whatever they are called), with a mount ball attached to this BMW OEM bracket. The phone is somewhat protected from the elements and sits perfectly in my line of sight. I run a USB cable under the dash panel to a charge port I installed on the left inner fairing). That bar was on the bike when I bought it but it's $150+ new. Maybe your dealer can order just the bar itself. On the fiche it looks like it's bundled with the Nav VI mount which you don't need. Yikes. Well, if you can find one it's a great, if horribly overpriced, solution.

I use the 1" Ram ball mount called the Ram-B-367U. It replaces one of the handlebar base bolts. I put one on either handlebar base for flexibility to mount two devices (phone and GPS). With a ball mounted at the handlebar base my phone obscures the lower third of the speedometer, from 20 something MPH to 120 something. From the ball I use a short double socket arm Ram-B-201U which is 3.73" long. The phone size will determine what Ram X-Grip to purchase.

There are other ways and locations to mount a phone. This is the way I do it.

Thanks everybody

Thanks everybody. After much consideration I've going to go with the Givi Smart Bar and some sort of Ram device for the phone. This combo is going to give me the options I need for anything I need to mount, including multiple devices if I add a formal GPS, for example.
