Master Cylinder Rebuild

Moving on to my next project, which is refreshing the front brake system that will include rebuilding the master cylinder. My question is whether or not I need to remove the whole right handlebar assembly or can the master cylinder be removed with the right handlebar assembly still in place. I did some searching and reading, but could not find a definitive answer. The bike: 1988 R100 RT.

I rebuilt mine [ '83R80st] and I think I removed the assembly, which is no big deal. Even if it doesn't have to be removed , it will be easier ti work on on a bench. To see how it goes together go to the Max bmw parts diagram for your model. It is in steering. I had some corrosion in the bore and I used a bore hone of the correct size and was able to get it smooth again with no leaks. good luck, hope your bore isn't too corroded.

but if your model is the same as the 1100, I don't think you need to remove the assembly.

The MC has two screws holding it to the brake/throttle assembly. It detaches entirely as a separate unit.
