Kick stand issue?

I have a 2003 R1200CL that leans way too much while on the kickstand and it seems to be getting worse, to the point I carry a 6" 2"x 4" in my tank-bag. The mechanic told me the motorcycle has been wrecked and the frame has been bent. Yes, the previous owner told me he had a slow speed lay over when he hit some sort of a spill while pulling into a gas station, why all the scratches. But why is it getting worse? I talked to a welding shop about heating up the kick-stand mount and bending it down to the necessary angle or welding a 1/8" steel pad to the bottom of the kickstand to help in soft soil. Any thoughts or suggestions. The frame has no appearance of being bent and handles fine.

I think I remember people carrying a hockey puck in their tank bag for one of the older bikes to help with the lean. A string on whatever is used is helpful for both remembering to pick it up and being able to pick it up once seated on the bike.

I think the hockey puck came from DieselYoda.... 🍁
But aside from that - Also make sure that the big main bolt AND the bushing it goes thru aren't also worn.

Whether the bike has been wrecked or not doesn't matter. The kickstand of the R1200CL / R1200CLC is a known issue.

Basically, the mounting point uses too thin of metal, and the bike was designed to lean over far like "American" cruisers. If you're not very careful with it, it WILL start to bend, and the bike WILL eventually fall over.

You will have to bend the tab back straight to get the bike to sit up correctly. You MAY want to add bracing at the same time.

THAT WASN'T ME!!!
I would never to suggest a true Canadian Icon was meant for anything less than sportsmanship and dental work.
I will also deny that they make great insulators on the feet of your air compressor.

Oh my......too much fertilizer for me.
I'm old enough to know better, but too old to remember why I shouldn't.
Still feel young enough to try.

For my continued technical contribution and sharing my life experiences, I hope you have the consideration to contribute to my "Go Fund Me" page, look for the Canuck missing all his front teeth.

Just pick one of us. All good!

Man! I have just the opposite problem, my R1100s sets too vertical on the side stand... it's too long!. Serious, I have to think to turn the wheel to the right just to get the most lean out of it. If there's even a uphill rise on the left side of my bike I have to move or use the center stand. If it was short I'd use a hockey puck too. I use them for jacking pads when floor jacking my Airstream.:) Yes, I'm Canadian.

If I recall correctly there were two side stands for that bike. One for the sport package equipped version that had the shorter arm on the rear and a regular one for non sport package bikes. It's been 20 years since I had my S, but I think I'm remembering that right.

(almost) Correct! There are actually 3 listed on the MAX website.

That would make sense, mine is the non sport one.

Also great to go between your floor jack and the lifting spots on your car.
