K1200S Gen. 2 technical abs module question

Hello group,

I have the Gen. 2 K1200S (2007). I put in a used abs module. Apparently this needs to be programed to work properly and can only be done by the BMW computer.

Does anyone understand this process? Is it about coding and putting in the bikes vin #? Apparently, even my BMW dealer is not familiar with the process. I'm not understanding how this could be the case.

Can anyone help me to understand this. thank you!

I can't speak for the "Gen II" modules, but if you look at the Beemer Boneyard website, they say in all of their Gen 1 (sold) listings, that they "may need to be reset by a BMW dealer".

The service DVD lists two procedures related to replacing the ABS modulator:

Which deals with the actual disconnect/remove/replace procedure and begins with connecting to the BMW computer and making a backup, and

Which deals with the programming side of things. So while the procedure (sans backup) can be followed and the module replaced, you are probably going to have to have the dealer tweak the programming so the bike and ABS module recognize each other. And if you are installing a used module it would be best to have it checked before going through the entire process.

Best,
DeVern
