Howling noise while riding my 2015 GSA 1200

I don't know if anyone else experiences this... but every time I ride my 2015 GSA at certain speeds I experience this super loud howling noise coming from the front. I would think it has something to do with the windshield or fairing? It doesn't happen at any particular speed, and I can't make it happen. It's driving me nuts. Any ideas, I've tried everything to figure it out! By the way, this is Mark, 204331.

Tire noise perhaps? Some tires get fairly loud as the miles pile on while others remain quiet.

What was the last thing that was changed before this started?
Is in every gear?
Have you tried a different helmet?
I agree on tire noise possibility. This can frequently be tested by altering tire pressure.

I'm going with some kind of aerodynamic noise. My RT's tire howl (well, not howl but they do make noise) but that's at a specific speed and it happens every time I get above about 40mph. In you case I'd look around and see if there's anything loose on the front end. Like, did any of the body panel screws fall off or back out? Is the fender tight? You know, stuff like that. I agree. My 2015 R1200GS has a howl from the front at lower speeds. At higher speeds I have earplugs so I don't hear it.

My take - they all do that.

If the noise level changes as you ride around a curve without reducing speed, then I'd blame the tire.

I get the same thing above about 45mph. I think it is wind blowing through the beak and front suspension, or, it might be the front wheel spacers too, so I just don't know.

I've never heard anything like that on my 2015 R. I took off the small sport windshield that it came with because the windshield was causing turbulent flow around my helmet and it is quieter without it. But, with or without the windshield, I have never heard anything like what the OP described.

I suspect the tires, I have had 3 sets of Anakee 3’s on several different GSA’s as they were original equipment on many of this model. They are howling sons of a guns. The road surface will make it worse depending on what you are on so it will vary. Ear plugs help but I change them out as soon as they wear out.

Let us know what tires you are running.

I hear the same thing (2017 R1200 GSA). I have "decided" it's the turbulence funneling through the beak and parts aft, but also note, I only hear it when I am just wearing my helmet. If I stuff ear plugs in (never do this for the 10 mile commute), I don't hear it, or at least only a little. At 6', my helmet is also directly in the flow off the windscreen, no matter how adjusted, so have decided it's just not a "quiet" bike. Still love it.

Are you using stock windscreen?

I have the Vtechnik medium wind screen. This has happened with both Anakee IIIs and Pirelli Scorpion IIs.

Tire noise, my Bridgestone Battle-ax A41 howl and Im about to change them out with 8500 miles. Try about 2 PSI less pressure in them and see if that helps, it did for me a little bit..YMMV
