HID conversion for brighter headlight

Anyone make the conversion to HID headlight bulbs on a r80rt? I am thinking there is not enough room in the headlight for the ballast. I don't know how far away the ballast can be from the bulb if mounted external to the headlight housing. I never thought the standard H4 bulb was bright enough.

Be sure and check the Owners News in January 2021. A member documented some LED changes and had trouble putting in an LED headlight on one of his bikes.

I replaced the headlight in my 1991 R100RT with a led from Superbrightleds.com and have been happy with the replacement. I used their part #H4-HLV5-M.

A previous owner put an HID on my R1100S and I put LED's on my 640 and LED's going on my 525. My R65 has the stock headlight but added LED aux lights.
