Hi once again guys, looking for advice on heating the gearbox of my 2000 5 speed r1100rt gearbox ready for reassembly, have installed a shim washer to preload the spring on input shaft and installed new bearings on input shaft so ready to assemble, I have a small blow torch which I have been advised not to use ,(even though I have used it for years on various airheads), anyhoo, got permission to put it in the oven to heat to 120 c, so do I heat the oven first and put the housing in for a certain amount of time, or do I put in cold and set the oven to 120 and wait for the whole lot to reach said temp ? concerned about the seals, shell empty all gears out:scratch as always thanks in advance Jimmy:ca

Beemerphile makes a good point about the temperature. I mean, the gearbox gets quite warm in day-to-day operation.

On the other hand, this could all be affected by your choice of condiments, whether or not you plan on basting or if you want to make gravy with the drippings. I know, a weak attempt at a joke and not helpful. :D

Preheat the oven and then put the case in.
Check periodically with an infra red thermometer until the target temperature is reached.
Oven mitts are mandatory :deal
