Garmin GPS 60C or 60CS Users?

brando

Ride safe to ride again
Anyone using Garmin's GPS 60C or 60CS out there? I'm thinking about this unit for dual use - riding and geocaching. Curious about the screen being readable in direct sunlight and whether the size of the screen is a factor when riding.

If you have one and had to do it all over again would you choose this unit?

Thanks,

I have a 60CS that I use for caching (username there is also SKWERL). It is a great rig for that setup. I actually have a 276c on the bike so I haven't used my 60 on the bike that much. However I think it would work well on the bike as well. The display is very good in sunlight. For a dual use rig, I'd also consider the new 76's. While I don't like the form factor quite as well, they have a lot more memory for bike applications.

I have the 60C and am happy with it. I love the autorouting and that I can route on the fly. Also, it has all of the BMW dealerships listed under Points of Interest, which is nice (DAMHIK).

My only complaint is that sometimes it routes me in weird ways, even when I have the maps loaded. This is my first GPS so I don't know if a fancier unit would be different.

The screen size is fine, but sure, a larger screen would be nice. Also, a horizontal screen would make more sense. More memory would be nice too, but it has not been a huge issue for me. The screen is fine in daylight - I have had no problem at all there.

I got the 60C as a compromise between cost and features. IMHO it is a great GPS for the $$. That being said, if price was not an issue, I would have gotten the 276C.

Had mine for more than a year now, use it for geocaching and as my primary mapping system on the GS. Love it. The map isn't huge, but it scales quickly and easily. I haven't had any problems with visibility in any lighting conditions so far. I really like the low light feature swaps colors to a more night friendly scheme as the lights go down. It is a great compromise between functionality on the bike, and portability for the hiker/backpacker

I had one...past tense

I had one, worked excellent, never any problems and loved it for geocaching. BUT....The orientation of the screen made it much less convenient to mount on my GS. So, I bought a Garmin Quest, while it doesn't have a 'geocaching mode', it does just about everything the 60C did. It's nice to have the horizontal orientation and with the $60 cable from Touratech, I was able to power it and run a line to headphones with audible directions. FWIW, GPScity.com just dropped the prices $100 since last week when I bought mine, you might sell your 60C if you got one, or pick up a quest instead. Just my $.02
