Kathy and I just made our first long distance ride. Pismo Beach to Albuquerque. 3 days east, 2 days back solo. As planned. Could not be more pleased with the 1100S. I must admit, at first, I was not sure about " sport/touring" with the accent on sport. The crew at the bike shop still cannot believe that my bride was comfortable for 900 plus miles. They say "on that bike"? I say "yea". They say " do you know how how rare that is"? Is say " why do you think I married her 45 year ago". IMG_20180409_143335001.jpg

That is awesome spuglisi! I'm trying to talk my wife into some trips, but she keeps talking to the harley riders at church who don't do long distance touring :(

That is an amazing accomplishment! For both of you! And, IMO, that bike is perfect for touring, but mostly for only one person. Adding a passenger was quite a risk. Well done.

Risk in comfort? Not sure I'm seeing the risk here, unless you're talking about comfort.

As long as the pillion knows what to do and what not to do in that postion, I see no issues. Well, besides comfort.

Kathy and I grew up riding BSA and Nortons through the early 70's. Later An R75/6 and now the 1100S. She never rode a cruiser even when I had a flirtation with HD shovelheads in the late 70's. I did upgrade the BMW to a Sargent seat. The greatest challenge was figuring out how to mount the bike with those gigantic panniers. Once we got that down, the rest was easy. And, 49 mpg two up!

Please bottle that up and I will buy several cases. My first love is still leery of my second love and finds all sorts of excuses to not ride with me. On the other hand, your 1100S is much sexier than my 1100GS......

Maybe I need to think Ferrari instead of John Deere.

one down.....many to come I'm sure. I've been blessed with a Bride that enjoys touring with me as well......in fact this year we should reach our 100,000 mile mark riding together

Ready to take a stab at getting a friend to sell me his '99 1100S. I'm sure my missus won't go anywhere with me but that's ok too.:)

I'm three months away from 50 years of marriage. Mrs. ExGMan has no interest in riding, but understands (I think) that it's important to me. That said, she's told me that 6-week 9K rides to the west coast and back are not a good thing.
