F700GS 2014 Terrible Noises

1. High pitched drone/whine/hum/whistle: especially noticeable at 30, 40 & 60.
I turned off the engine at these speeds and still there.
I pulled in the clutch at these speeds and still there.
Tires are Michelin Anakee 3
2. Rattling/clanking noise when at 2,000 or so RPM, roll on a little and keep speed steady; do not accelerate.
Sounds like chain but dealer adjusted the chain.

HELP!

Not sure what to think about this. At least you are still within warranty time. Did you have the Anakee's put on? I would put it on the center stand and do a little forward reverse motion with the wheel and see how it feels. The only thing that comes to mind is the "cush-drive" rubbers in the rear wheel. You could also try a different road surface such as hard pack dirt and see if the noise changes.
Good luck.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, welcome to the forum!
Any questions, just ask.

That's the great thing about warranties, you can make this the dealer's problem. I imagine they have one in NYC..... Go Yankees!

Wecome to the forum.

Not clear to me. Does the sound change as engine RPM changes or does it change in response to the bike's speed?

HELP!

Had similar drone/hum on wife's '14 700GS. Turned out to be the way the air came over the windscreen and through the bodywork. Different windscreen eliminated that.

:dance:dance:dance

I have never seen a modern BMW motorcycle that was happy at 2000 rpm. The rattle is the chain, and the engine is unhappy.

F700GS 2014 noises

So, the dealer changed my tires to Metzeler Tourance Next for $300 and the continuous road whistle is gone; whew! Now i just have the chain rattle; what can i do to alleviate that noise?

Shift more often... The 700 runs best at 3000 to 4000 rpm's. You'll get your best gas mileage at this rpm level, plus save wear and tear on the engine, transmission, chain, sprockets, etc.....

Not exactly sure what you mean by chain rattle. None of these twins like to be lugged, so as others have suggested keep the rpms up. Also put the bike on the center stand and check the chain yourself in about 3 different places. You are looking for about 1 inch of slack in the tightest portion of the chain. The owners manual will outline the process. Also watch the chain as you slowly turn the rear wheel and see if any links are binding. Lube it often as well.

Yes the Anakee 3's are not the quietest tire, but once you know what it is, you get used to it and it is only really noticeable at a certain wheel speed. Other than that I like the tire's performance.

Wow, I find this strange. :scratch I must be just lucky, no whining from my F700GS, Anakee 3's or anything else. :dunno I hope this is not a continues problem for you. :whistle ;)

They all have noises

Every bike I've had has noises. Engine noises, rattle noises, wind noises and tire noises. They are all the same and for me, tire noises are no more annoying than any other one. I tune them all out, except the absence of engine noise. I get a loud uh-oh noise in my head. :eek

did BMW change the chain measuring procedure? because that is NOT what is required to be done on my '09 F8.

The noise from the Anakee 3's is well known and has been discussed extensively on ADV rider. I had a set on my F800GS, did have some noise, but I wear really good ear plugs, so it wasn't a bother. Aside from that the tires are fantastic, great, sport bike level traction and most mileage I have ever gotten out of a set of tires. I will go back to them, when my current Pirelli Scorpion trails are gone.
