Emission canister removal?

Has any oilhead owner removed their emission canister?

Beside loosing a few pounds of dead weight from the bike, are there any side effects to the performance of the bike?

Do oilheads in other countries besides USA have the emission canisters installed from the factory?

just ordered Staintune pipes and dealer told me they would have to remove can. said there would be no adverse affects. wayne

look by knob adjuster for rear shock to see if you have can there.

You will gain nothing on an RS by taking it off unless you want to drill yur filler neck to hold more fuel. If you do this the over flow can run back and clog the canister.

Lots of us GS off road types remove it 'cause it can clog in a tip over.

I hadn't thought about the purpose for the canister. And I'd been wondering about drilling the fuel filler tube to allow filling up the tank like my other bikes.
So, am I correct that the filler tube is to capture fuel vapor at the top of the tank, and that the top of the tank is then vented to the canister (mounted behind the rear brake reservoir on my 03 GS Sport)?
And, other than being environmentally incorrect, is this just a matter of removing the canister and plugging the line up at the tank?
