Electrical Meltdown

While I was returning to New Mexico. I had ridden about 720 miles on Monday the 14th of july. We started our day in West Memphis Ark., The rt had performed flawless on our trip. When we reached the Texas State line. The Temperture was a Whopping 106 degrees. We had stopped in Vernon Texas, Heading for Lubbock. about 20 miles out of vernon, on highway 70
the rt experienced a electrical meltdown of some sort. the horn started honking the engine temperture gauge went off the scale,
the fuel gauge went to zero, abs started flashing, and the starter
tried to engage, you could not kill the engine with the ignition key
or the kill switch on the handle bar, and the left turn signal started blinking the only way I could shut off the bike was let the clutch out and kill it. I think the combination of the air temperture
and the heat of the bike melted the brain. The bike was still running and wanted to go home. And so was I.

I welcome your comments or recommendations.

Well, the only thing the "brain" controls is fuel and spark, and it sounds like the bike ran fine. :) What you are looking at now is some sort of wire bundle that got melted together. I would pull the right hand fairing panel and look at the wiring that is routed along the oil cooler line, or possibly near the thermostat on the steering head. Something there must be smoked.
